Lexus Tech,

You're incorrect! How can you justify your claim?

There are already 8000K HID kits on the market, that's a fact!

a1exus,

It comes down to personal preference, whether you want to get 4200K, 6000K, or 8000K HID kits. I've been playing around with HID kits for several years, and I've seen them all. Basically, the major difference between all these different illuminations ("K" stands for "Kelvin"-- measures the illumination of the light), is the projected color of the light output.

4200K will be what car manufacturers put in the cars, like all oem lexus cars with hid. Light is blueish when first turned on, after a while, turns to yellowish almost like regular halogen light.

6000K also has several options: Philips Ultinons 6000K, K2 6000K crystal white, K2 6000K supersun, etc... Philips Ultinon has blueish/slight purple when first turned on, light color still stay slightly blueish/purple after a long while. K2 Crystal white very purple when first turned on, stay kind of purple/yellowish after a long while. K2 supersun has blueish when first turned on, turns slightly yellowish after long while.

8000K is still very new on the market. Very blueish when first turned on, will stay slightly blueish after long while.

You can certainly get the 8000K at several shops or even ebay.

Here's the ebay link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cg...762059&r=0&t=0

Here's another shop I recommend (although cost more than ebay, ofcourse):
http://www.autolites.net/

There have been long discussion about these HID kits at the RX300 forum, and I have posted several pictures for you to compare...

Have fun!

all the CLAIMED 8000k HID bulbs out there are not real 8000k bulbs. All they are is either 6000k labeled as 8000k to fool those who doesn't know the difference, or they are 4100k or 6000k bulbs with the blue slips to make them bluer hence 8000k in COLOR not in brightness.

Philips and PIAA doesn't have any 8000k bulbs out yet...... I don't see how the eBAY and other places that sells 8000k bulbs can be legit.

Just a warning. If Philips and PIAA doesn't have anything 8000k yet, chances are no one knows how to make them yet.

i don't understand

if Philips and/or PIAA is the only one who allow to discover new technologys? and then release them? why someone else can't do that?

i mean i understand that Philips and PIAA are bigger company then others but i'm pretty much sure that they are real, it's like same thing as on very popular cdrw manfacture for computers.. plextor is very big company but they seems to be stuck with 12x scsi when other company already made 16 and even more.. but that doesn't mean that all other is b/s..

maybe i'm wrong..

I would really reconsider that decision with K2 6000K kit if i were you. When people say it's purple, it's no joke. It almosts looks like one of those import bulb swaps in my opinion. Take a look at this site for some K2 pics on a free form reflector to see what the color of the light will be. You might end up regreting it if you see this.

If you want the real deal. Check out this site for the real color i think you are looking for. This site is highly recomended by people on the Philips automotive lighting discussion forum. See for yourself and look at the pics.

here's a link to Philips forum.

I know that you you are looking for that very bluish look almost like the OEM BMWs or even the mercedes S-class, but I also know you definately want to keep that HID look instead of the colored bulbs look. I just purchased myseld a Real Philips 6000K kit from www.autolamps-online.com for my GS400 and I am very happy with the color. It starts off as a deep blue and and changes for a subtle blue and stays that way. I believe hleo1 in this forum installed the same Philips 6000K ultinon kit on his IS and he even has pics.

GlobeCLK pretty much answered your questions for me,see below.

6000K does exist,it's the purplish hue that Philips Ultinons have. But 7500k,8000k,8500K...that's all a marketing scheme so buyers not knowledgeable with high intensity discharge systems will buy them. Like horsepower the average consumer will probably figure more is better,so X brand HID kit must be better than Y brand because Xclaims to have a 12000K kit. I've installed a few HID conversions too,so I have a little bit of knowledge when it comes to this subject.

One more thing,Philips does NOT sell HID conversions. They MANUFACTURE the ballasts and burners (bulbs) these companies use for their conversion kits. And it's spelled with on L,not two.

About your Philips 6000K lights, do they change color depending on the angle you look at (like on bimmers, audi, s2000, etc)? Or is it that purplish color at all angles? Thanks!

You cannot compare how HID light output from a projector light source such as on the BMW's or auidi's to a free-form reflector housing suck as Lexus. The reason why you get the little color shifting from BMW's and Audi's is because they give off a bit of a prism effect from the projector lens. Projector housing also have a sharp "cut off." Meaning becuase there is a lens to fucus the light from the light source, you can aim the beam higher with out getting too much glare which is the problem with freeform housings. No matter what you install as far as the color temp on your lamp i.e 4300K or 6000K, you will not get that effect on your lexus, but you can get a bluer color from OEM HID if you upgrade your existing HID to 6000K. Factory HID for lexus is the 4300K D2R lamps. 6000K ultinons from Philips are similar to the bluish tint that the new Mercedes S class emit.

If lexus uses the 4300K bulbs why don't they turn yellow like these aftermarket ones?
