Well, for those chasing this gremlin, mine ended up being somewhere in the brakes. I say "somewhere" because I haven't found the smoking gun, but with the new pads, the problem is gone.
I took out the Pep Boys ceramics, and put in a set of Akebonos. In the process, I looked really hard for anything that may be loose, but found nothing. Still, once the new pads were in, the clunk was GONE!! Go figure. All I can guess is perhaps there was more slop in the Pep Boys pads than in the Akebonos.
