OK, I am intrigued . What is this "electronic ear" they used? Is that something that us regular folks can round up somewhere for diagnostics?

Well, for those chasing this gremlin, mine ended up being somewhere in the brakes. I say "somewhere" because I haven't found the smoking gun, but with the new pads, the problem is gone.

I took out the Pep Boys ceramics, and put in a set of Akebonos. In the process, I looked really hard for anything that may be loose, but found nothing. Still, once the new pads were in, the clunk was GONE!! Go figure. All I can guess is perhaps there was more slop in the Pep Boys pads than in the Akebonos.

Hope this helps others.
