Default Timing belt replacement

Ok,I am getting conflicting stories about this.

Some of the dealers around here insist you should change out the timing belt at the 90k mark and I see a lot of people online saying I should be good up to 140k.

Whats the real story here?

I have a 2001 GS 300 with 93k miles on it for what its worth.

Whats the average price for changing this out?Is it like most cars when you change out the timing belt you change out the water pump just because you are there?

I think 90K is recommended by Lexus... Mine was changed at 93K.

The general rule of thumb for cars is 100K.

Just had my 99 gs400 done with 86k on him. Almost didn't do the water pump cuz hey why throw money away...anyway did a tune up ,new timingbelt/tensioners ,water pump and turns out the water pump was staring to leak. If you need to have the mechs go back to do one or the other it's like 200 labor so I firgured pay them now rather than try to save a few bucks and wait it out. My total job at the Toyota dearler was 1490$

Default Are these the same?

Is the timing belt also called the "serpentine belt"?

It's good to change it every 90k just for peace of mind. But most of the Toyota stuff is so overengineered that they can go waaay past their ratings. I know of someone who ran a SC300 for 200k on the stock belt. We took it all out and it wasn't even that bad! Definately a LOT better than what someone would expect a belt with 200k would have. There were a few little hairline cracks on the belt, but no teeth were missing at all!

I helped out someone locally for $750 including oem parts. Did the timing belt, water pump, front main crankshaft seal, camshaft seals, thermostat, timing belt tensioner & roller, spark plugs, valvecover gaskets, serpentine belt. I had nothing else better to do that weekend so I did it for cheap lol. It was less than half of what the dealer would of charged so he felt pretty good about the price lol.
