GS400 faster than mustang GT, 350Z, G35 Coupe?
Im about to buy a used GS400. Are the 400's faster than mustang GT, 350Z, G35 Coupe in stock form? Also has anyone done any weight reduction without taking away any luxury features. ie, removing spare tire, stripping trunk compartment? what would be the best naturally aspirated mods to improve 0-60 and 1/4 mile time. This car is going to be used daily, however all my buddies have GT's and 350Z's and I'd like to keep up lol. I know alot about this car, i have always admired it and its owners, i love the VIP scene, however im tight on $$$ and just wanna know what performance mods really work and which don't.
Thanks in advance!

There's a search feature (which I haven't yet mastered myself) that will help you a TON. Also, you can Google 0-60 times and there's a webpage or two with 0-60 and 1/4 mile times of a lot of cars over the years. Depending on the years, I would guess you'll lose to the 350Z and the Mustang by 1/2 second to 60mph--the G35 would be close. Add a torque converter and LSD and you might run with 'em all... But as you state, you know alot about this car...

OP, you're comparing a 4 dr to coupes; tho a v8.
imho, i dont think a 2GS 400 will beat a 350z. but, there are many variables that will come into play w/your question.
if you dont need a 4dr, imho, i'd get a G35 (luxury and a decent set of ponies under the hood). hehehe

I like the styling of the gs400 better than all the rest. So i will be sticking to the GS400. And the mustang competing would be a 1999 GT Version. what i really wanted to ask was, for example: would purchasing an srt intake+chip really give me noticable performance? would it justify the cost?

Weight reduction (spare tires and such)
Good set of tires and wheels (light 17 inch should do well)
Intake + fuel control (SRT+chip or FIPK +SAFC)
Torque converter
Headers + exhaust (high flow cat/catless, freer flowing everywhere else)
LSD w/ gears
Then remember, you need brakes too.
Last but one of the most important... Power mode and Traction OFF

My friend has an '03 G35 coupe and I haven't been able to beat him...can't say that I have gone against a GT or 350Z.
I have gone against a Trans Am (the last model before the F body was canceled) on the highway and beat it...once I gunned it he couldn't catch me. It sounded like a V8 although I didn't get a chance to see the badges or anything...does this sound right or was it a V6?
EDIT: I have gone against a V8 'stang in the '99 body style, it beat me. Not sure if it was modded though, and we didn't race much, from a light up to maybe 100 km/h

The gs400 is quite a bit faster than the older 99 bodystyle mustangs. Its the newer ones that are a little dicey to race. Depends alot on the driver if you are racing a new GT.

Now as for mods I've installed SRT Intake + ECU and Tanabe Medallion Touring cat back exhaust and I've noticed an improvement in performance, nothing huge though. After I put in my system it slowed me down a bit again, but when I finally get my headers in I hope to gain alot more of that back ... There's alot of potential for the V8 if you're willing to throw down the $$$$

Sorry man but I don't think they were racing you ... A cobra would tear our cars apart like I have learned twice already (and my car is modded) but a GT is more reasonable, 350z I beat now but not by much (1-2 cars?), and G35s are easy .

the 350z and g35 would be a close race with their 6spd and the right driver. autos would be very close regardless of driver.
mustang gt's 05 and up have about the same hp as the 400, but less weight so will probably murk ya. any gt 04 or below should not, again heavy 4.6 with only 270hp, 96-98 is the same motor, but 94-95 have the 5.0 which is notorious for being very tough to beat.

The older 350Z were under powered, but responded very well to mods.
The best bang for your buck on the GS400 would be SAFC or headers, if you DIY or find a place to install them for a cheap price. Although; a lot of people claim SRT intakes really made a difference, there are several others that say the opposite. GL and don't be afraid to search
