I sold my 99 gs4 to my sister the other day and what do you know she left her keys on the lawn and they got ran over by the lawnmower

I only had the one black key and the valet key. the black key is mangled but the housing is still intact for the most part, just gotta get a new battery for it and pray that it works. I always treated my black key like gold because i always heard not to lose it.

Can she get a new key than match the code if the transponder works or does the old key need to be able to go into the car, its mangled, to make it work? As i said i do have the valet key does that help at all? So what are her options without getting a new cpu? thanks for your help guys

yeah they told her $740 which was $225 for the key and a 4 hrs of labor

i always knew not to lose that key and am kicking myself for never ordering a second one now

If the transponder works, then just buy a new blank key, transfer the internals and have the key cut according to the valet specs.

i lost my only key before..and i called a locksmith that reprogrammed my ecu and made me a new master and two spares for $350..thats in san diego tho..so iono how much it'll be out there..but im sure u can find a better deal that $740..good luck

If it works, still order a new key from Tami with instructions on how to program. I too lost my only master key and lexus was going to charge me a fortune to replace the ECU. I had to remove the ECU and ship it to Tami who flashed it along with 2 new master keys for $500. She sent the ECU and keys to me and I had to program them in the car. In no way is that part 4 hours of work, took me about 10 minutes (tami can send you instructions). If anyone reading this only has one key, spend the $75 and get one from Tami so you can reprogram yourself.

thanks for the help fellas, i found a local locksmith recommended by the dealer to reflash for $250 and ordered 2 keys from Sewell Lexus for $290 or so shipped. they were just trying to rip her off since she is a young girl probably. as soon as she questioned about getting it flashed instead of replaced they gave her a phone # for the local locksmith they use. needless to say after my encounter a few weeks ago trying to buy a new lex and now this i say i gotta find a new lexus dealer

If the remote still works, like you said it might, then you do not need to reflash. All you need is a new key and swap, just like mention before.

my car didnt come with a master key just the valet key lexus of concord told me 1500 that they had to change my ecu WAT SHOULD I DO i only have a valet key

Well mine only came with the valet key and I wanted more original keys. So my dealer hooked me up with a new ECU and 3 keys for around 550$. I think it took around an hour to complete the job too.
