How Much Power Can My Tranny Hold?
#2
eh, i'm not 100% sure if this applies to the 430 trans as well but i know the factory trans in the 300 is safe to 350hp. I would say upgrade the TC as well and you should be alright with what you're planning, just if you're going to beat on it over and over again you're gonna want it rebuilt.

You just might be able to get away with it, as long as you don't beat on it all the time. Definately get a tranny cooler, it is a very cheap and easy mod to do. If you do get a TQ, you have to get a tranny cooler, as the upgraded TQ converter creates more heat. I would personally atleast get a valve body upgrade. I read that the GS4XX transmissions have a couple extra clutch packs compared to the GS300 transmissions, can anyone confirm that?
By the way, do you mean the standalone AEM as the computer, or the FIC piggyback?

The bone stock trans can hold around 450-500hp or so with the stock TC. I've tested this, but I lost 2nd gear alreay lol. It took my abuse at that power level for about 3 days before 2nd gear let go. It will run at this power level for a little while is all I can say because I have tried it
BTW: I have 3 transmissions
All the A650E transmissions are the same mechanically. Same amount of clutch packs and everything. The only main difference is the GS400\430 trans has a different spring calibrations in the VB to compensate for the higher amount of torque coming from the engine.

How does an upgraded valve body make the transmission more robust?
My understanding of them is very basic... I thought an upgraded valve body just allows for increased oil flow which leads to firmer shifts?
