Default Gatorback vs Dayco

I'm on the market for a new serpentine belt. I spoke with a guy at Advance Auto who told me that the Dayco belt was better than the Goodyear Gatorbacks because they are made with a better material that holds up longer and makes less noise over time. I know most of this forum endorses the Gatorbacks but has anyone had any experience or with the Dayco?

I use the gatorback, most all of the guys recommend it... actually, it is the only one I have ever heard besides OEM of the recommended choice. Sometimes manufactures pay employees to sell there product, its called a SPIFF and they will try to get you to buy that product so that the employee obviously makes money. I hope advanced is not one of those companies that do that, but it is always possible

Yes it is very possible. Advance doesn't even carry those belts so I thought the employee's statement might have been kind of biased.

Continental Rubber Co. makes top notch serpentine belts for many makes & models including the GS.. I know because I have one in my car and it has held up longer than the others with its excellent construction and rubber compound.. It is superior to stock Toyota, Gatorback & Dayco imo.. The Gatorback design has many weak points which will promote premature belt wear..

Gatorback serpentine belt below

Continental Contitech belts are the way to go & are oem on many high end euro cars..

Gatorback is nice and quiet. Even if there might be some "weak points" I think it's good enough. I don't think you need some super overengineered part.

The accessory belt isn't going to fail drastically, it might last 5years (current time on mine and still fine). If it starts squeaking again, just re-replace it then.

Yup. It's kind of like spark plugs. Even if X plugs will last 90k miles, it's not guaranteed you'll get the same result as you did when it first sparked at 0 miles.

My gatorback belt is stating to squeal now. Only like 2-3k miles on it. I guess I run my car harder than others lol.

I'm sure you run your harder than most, however this happened to a fellow tech, and a buddy of mine on his 2IS. After replacing the power steering pump, and trying to diagnose a whine coming from a pulley, it ended up being the belt coming around the power steering pump pulley, something about the cross cuts. He replaced with OEM noise went away.

Hmm...interesting. I'm also having a whine on my PS pump pulley. Could be related to this damn belt. I'll try switching it out to something else to see if the problem goes away.

I guess it could be the cold this morning but after 2 years of my gatorback belt I heard some extra noise this morning on start up... maybe just condensation but I'll see if it continues...

Dayco makes some of Toyota and Lexus OEM serpetine belts.

Gatorbacks have a tendency to get chewed up overtime, so as the belt ages, the belt becomes more brittle and smaller sections come off faster.
