I went with 19s since the wheel+tire sizes match the existing diameter of stock size....so I dont have to worry about re-calibrating my speedometer...but I still avoid potholes like landmines.

If roads are not an issue, and purely for looks...go with 20s....speedometer may be off a bit....but who cares....your on DUBS!!!
+1

20's for show
18's for go

(of course 19 is somewhere in between but more towards the 20's)

I've been wrestling with this one myself. I live in Wisconsin, so I WAS thinking 18's max, but then they're not exactly showstoppers. So I'm between 19's and 20's... I've visited car dealerships where stockers on brand new cars are something like 245/35-19 or 255/35-20...I figure if they manage, so will I as long as I'm careful. So, it's 19's or 20's for me. 19's are more forgiving ride-wise and are less expensive usually, but 20's just fill the wheelwell that little bit extra. Honestly, though, it'll come down to the rim I want, what size it's available in, and what kind of a deal I get. My favorite rim on clearance would put me on 19's OR 20's.

I think 19's look great on the GS, but it's not about the rim size, it's about the lip size.

I think 20's are perfect if you have a kit and no bags. If you don't and have 19's, who knows how long the kit would stay attached to the rest of the car

Okay. I'm a total beginner when it comes to selecting rims. I read over this:
http://www.lgwnorcal.net/articles/wheelfitment.html to get some ideas on rims sizes and offsets. So I have a better idea of what I need to look for. I have Tein CS Coilovers and the stock rims just need to go (maybe a winter set). I also read somewhere that someone ran 19's in front and 20's in the rear. I was thinking about this: 18x7.5 with 37 mm of offset in the front, and 19x9.5 with 45mm of offset in the rear. Would that work. The offsets in the rear are a little off what is recommended in the article above. I just don't want to have to roll or cut my fenders. Thanks for the help.

just get 19s w/8.5s in front and 9.5s in rears.
fronts: mid 30s offset
rears: upper 30s offset

you'll be fine since CS dont go too low on 19s anyway. dont complicate yourself with different diameter wheels (18s vs 19s).

19's with fat tire setup is the best compromise of looks and functionality. 20's are very durable too, especially if the car is not slammed.

I drove all over with 20's and slammed TEINS with my GS4, no issues

Do you think a 225/40/19 on a 9.5" and a 255/35/19 on a 11" will have a comparable stretch?
