I didnt know it was so much work to retrofit these. DIY post helps but finding a set of bowls is another thing.

I never seen LS600h headlights at night, but I doubt if they are anywhere near as bright at regular HIDs, or even halogen. I believe the most powerful LED bulb on the market right now is 3 watts, and it produces about 50% more lumens than a regular halogen.... versus metal halide HID bulbs that produce 300% more lumens than halogen, which means that HID's produce 250% more lumens than leds. Most automotive HID bulbs are 35 watts I believe, so if my math is correct, you would need roughly 120watts worth of LEDs to match the output of a 35 watt metal halide HID bulb... which translates into fourty (40!!!) 3watt LED bulbs.

Yeah.. thanks, but no thanks.

Halogen = 1
LED = 1.5
HID = 4

LED/1.5 = 1
HID/1.5 = 2.67
2.67 - 1 = 1.67 = 167%

Therefore, HID produces 167% more lumens than LED according to your theory, with the correct math.

There are LEDs that have power ratings upwards of 100w, they just aren't available to the public to buy.

3w LEDs definitely do not put out more lumens than an automotive 9006 halogen bulb. 3w will get you roughly 250-lumens. Even some of the most high -powering LEDs available for consumers do not com close to Halogens in output. The difference is efficiency, and thats where HID > LED. Even the LEDs in the LS600h are pretty pathetic when compared to halogen output, bulb vs bulb. We're slowly shifting to LEDs because the technology is getting better. You can flicker LEDs on and off as much as you like without adverse affect. As of right now, give me HID over LED any day of the week. There is no reason to want LEDs for performance reason, as of right now.

Well, something like that... I refuse to use my brain for math during saturdays and sundays, so I'm not even gonna check your math

The bottom line is, metal halide HID's and fluorescent bulbs are still the most efficient light sources today, and LEDs are only slightly more efficient than halogen, while being dead last in power ratings.
