Housings!
I can't just plug and play, where can I get new housings and how much are they going to run me? I found some HID kit at http://www.wholesalexenonhid.com/ for $88, seems to good to be true but I'd rather pay that than say like $200ish...

According to this link, a 2000 GS300 Platinum edition comes with HID's. This is straight from lexus.
Platinum pkg is either SF or GS depending if you have nav or not. Both have HID headlights.
Hope this helps.

thx for taking the words right out of my mouth; aside from the fact i wouldve had to delete/backspace too much to edit, LOL
OP, there's some good threads regarding the HID install in here + the lighting section as well. you can always tap CL'er, cliffud, if you have any questions as well. he's a vendor on here, mobilehid.com, and quite respected-which is
GL and if you get the HIDs, post em up!

I have HIDS in my non HID headlights. Aimed down a tadbit. It doesnt blind anyone(ive seen my car come from a distance) yet it still gives me AMAZING light output. Definitly not "clean" but gets the job done

If you can believe the specs for the 2000 GS on the Lexus corporate website, the base Platinum Series GS300 did not come with HID --> http://www.lexus.com/contact/pdf/2000/2000GSspecs.pdf
As on the 2000 LS400, there were three different Platinum Series versions of the GS: base, Nakamichi and Navigation. The above web page gives the designation "GS" for the Navigation version of the Platinum Series but I suspect it should be "SG" to correspond with the three Platinum versions of the LS. My 00 LS is an "SF" Platinum.
You can review the Platinum versions of the LS by changing the "GS" to "LS" in the above website URL. You can also view specification information for most 1990-2005 Lexus vehicles by making appropriate changes to the URL.

According to the GS specification link, if your GS300 Platinum has navigation or Nakamichi, then it has HID. If it has the standard audio system, then it has halogen headlights. It also indicates that a GS300 Platinum with heated front seats also has HID. Does your car have heated front seats? If not, then it is a Platinum "SE" version -- the base Platinum Series model.
Lexus factory HID headlights have "auto-leveling" motors and go through a little up and down synchronization "dance" each time the car is started with the headlight switch in the "Auto" position. If your headlights don't do this up and down motion, then they are not factory HID.
If your GS300 has factory HID, each headlight will have the bulb type "D2R" embedded in the plastic lens -- probably at the bottom edge if like my 00 LS.
Perhaps the previous owner installed an HID kit -- the kits have sure gotten easy to install but an aftermarket kit will not have auto-leveling.
You could always just pop out a headlight bulb and see what type it is.
