Holy cow, yours was pretty bad. It almost looks like it was painted flat white. Good job on the restore I thought mine was dull but you could still tell it was chrome
dont let the residue dry up in there or else its gonna be annoying to get out, use a toothpick and run it across the tiny gap to get all of the residue out and then wipe it with a MF cloth.

I am going to try a toothbrush to remove all the residue. Hope that will work?
Took two crappy pics but here is the before and after:
(excuse the residue)
My strips are that same bright grayish color in the first pic, I kind of thought they were not chrome but originally were that grayish color, I guess I may try cleaning them now, I will try some Megs PlasticX first.
Do it! And I know it sounds crazy but this weekend when I saw a GS that had these strips polished to a bright chrome shine (DaveGS4's old car) it looked so good and made a huge difference. That shine really sets off the sides of the car in a way you wouldn't think it could.
my strips also are that grey colour, and cost around $170AUD each for new ones through the dealer! i tried plast X on mine but couldnt get it to do anything, but the front one i sortof scratched with my nail by accident and noticed the chrome beneath.. i thought it had faded away!
i have some other wheel polish i bought, not Hot Rims but similar, so i will try that otherwise ill go grab some hot rims and shine em up!
