Default Hit rev limiter (pretty bad) now CEL! :(

The other day (Sunday) I was driving in "M" mode and came to a light. I forgot I still had it in this mode and started driving. Traffic was slow and I saw an opening so I nailed it; I had the music on loud so I didn't hear the engine hitting the rev limiter until I felt the car not accelerating any faster; I had it still in 3rd gear! I was so pissed at myself...it bounced off the rev limiter I'd say for a solid 1-2 seconds before I realized it! I'm such a moron. About an hour later the CEL comes on the dash and I'm like WTF did I do to my car. The car was still running perfect though even at idle; it was smooth and steady. When I got home I disconnected the neg. battery terminal and the ECU-b fuse for 2 hours. Got back in my car later that night and all was good...no CEL at all; that was Sunday night.

Now, just last night the CEL pops up again...still the car is running great. I am going to get these codes checked at a local Autozone during my lunch break today.

Guys, what could I have damaged on my car? If it is still driving fine could I have done some serious damage to it? Please help!

I doubt you messed anything up.. the rev limiter is there for a reason.. now if your car was a manual... that would be a different story.. check th codes out first like everyone says..

It's either your O2 sensor in Bank 2 or your cat is bad. Obviously checking the O2 sensor is the cheaper easier fix.

manual has nothing to do with it. both cars have a rev limiter. the only way to "bypass" the rev limier on a manual car is to downshift and have the motor engine brake pass the limiter. engine braking is all mechanically dependent. rev limiter is controlled by either cutting fuel or spark. depends on the car.

you didnt do any damage related to the motor. not mechanically. when i go to drift days i ride the rev limiter all day if need be

As a little "aside" note. Yesterday afternoon (not sure if this is related or not)...I drove over a STUPID speed bump that was the highest one I have ever seen! I am not even riding that low and smashed the undercarrage of my car so bad and I drove over it extremely slow to boot! I got out and nothing was leaking or anything but later on that night after I got the CEL on the dash (for the 2nd time) I looked under my car and saw 1" pieces of yellow plastic wedged between the clamps (that hold the heat shield) on my brand new frickin' "y" pipe. Those clamps are bent now...and by the way...that plastic was from the top of the speed bump. To add insult to injury the top of the speed bump has a 1" high plastic strip screwed into it. Stupid a s s es...how fast do they think people will drive through a damn parking lot anyway; that thing was just obnoxious.

No, I didn't hear any pop or backfire at all while bouncing off the rev limiter.

That is what I meant by if the car was a manual.. rev limiter wont do jack if you miss-shift.

Hell I rag on my rev limiter alll day long and the car is still fine. I also have a raised limiter at 7500rpm. Under heavy acceleration my car will just spin the tires and the rpm immediately jumps up to redline. I just let the car bounce at redline in 1st till the car hits 40 and 2nd till it hits 65

Turn the music down man I doubt bouncing off the rev limiter will cause any damage on the GS.. Try down shifting to 2nd gear from 100mph.. The ECU will not allow it.. Over rev protection.... Take her in for diagnosis to get a definitive answer.. Good luck

it's probably a bad cat, not your o2 sensor, because it's a different code for o2 sensor

...if it is a bad cat what would be my best solution? Obviously not the $2K for a new Lexus OEM cat. Don't our cars have more than one cat? How would I know which one is the culprit? Also, could I just buy a nice universal hi-flow cat for $200 bucks and slap it in there? At almost 9 years old and 104K miles does it sound about right for a cat to go bad on our cars?

Sorry for all the questions guys...appreciate the help as always.
