Default Modifying the '01+ GS tails...

I know this has been done and covered several times before and I know there is a similar (current) thread on here but didn't want to hijack it so I figured I'd start my own thread with my own questions/thoughts.

With regard to modding the '01+ GS tails would using a piece of red tint over the amber area look good? Would that work?

Also, I like uniformity such as the all red/clear (JP) tails so I was thinking...what about using a very dark gray (either transparent paint or tint) to go over the entire thin (clear/amber) strip? Then the tails will "look" like the JP tails only instead of red/clear they will be red/dark gray. Obviously, when the blinkers are on they will be a duller amber due to the gray coating but when they are off they should look nice and clean. What do you guys think? Suggestions...comments...

Nick.. You should just purchase the LED tails with the thinner clear portion ala the $1200 J.P tails. Keep the 01's in the event you return the car to stock.. Remember CL member "Tane" from the NE forum BBQ? He has the LED tails described above.. His tails have the built in resistors and will not trigger the warining light on the dash.. PM him for the name of the vendor that sels these lights.. His car pictured here from the meet.

They do look nice but I'm not into LEDs and I don't really want to spend any more money. In the last month and a half I bought:

TTE front lip
TTE rear lip spoiler
L-Sportline sideskirts
L-sportline rear bumper
S&S headers

...lol...I really shouldn't be spending anymore money anytime soon. I still have to save up to get all this stuff painted and installed for after the winter. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Beez43 put red vinyl over the amber on his 01 tails. Im sure you could find some pictures of his tails if you do a search under his name. Or you could just PM him.

I had red vinyl from ebay on my 01+ tail lights and it looked perfect. It blends so well you wont be able to tell.

I would try smoke tinting the bottom blinker portion. Imo, it would look better smoked because you got a black car...

After a while mine popped, and now I have that light on my dash whenever the taillights come on at night. I have the same ones. I love them. Better than JP tails pricewise, led's don't look like the nasty WISE ones, and light up EVERYTHING when I brake.

If you have the time and a little cash, buy a set of LED tails from ebay with the thin all clear bottom, take that apart, then take the OEM 01+ apart and switch the two outer lens. That way you have JP OEM knock offs for a fraction of the price...I would of done this if I didn't have a set of JP non-led tails...I should deserve credit for this Idea!

The idea has been going around since the LED tail came out. It's just that no one has spare cash lying around to do this. .

...nice idea and sounds cool, but I will try a much more simple approach; I'll just try to tint the entire thin bottom area.

With LED signal lights you can buy a new designed flasher unit which will stop the rapid flash , nothing i know of for the brake park lights to stop that failure with LED's though.
