How good would my GS400 do against an automatic Z28? Speed-wise of course :)
I know they make them in either a 285 or a 305 HP engine, would I be able to hang with either of them? An automatic one of course...I know that a 6speed Z28 would rape me...Has anybody out there raced one? If so how'd you do?
Also, whats the 0-60 time of both cars...
Thanks,
Steve

Well, since I gave up my supercharged '97 Z28 I know a little something. I was a member of club F-Body for awhile. '97 and below Z28 have a LT1 engine rated at 285 hp. Should be a good race. '98 and up have the LS1 engine rated at 305. Z28 "SS" have 315. Do not race a 98 and up Z28. You will be eaten for lunch. Stock they run 13.6-13.8 quarter mile all day long. From what I understand, GM under rated the HP figures for the Z28 saying they are 305 to keep in under the C5 vette. But all dyno's Ive seen, they had almost 270 rwhp (stock) which is way over 305 at the flywheel. 97 Z28's run 5.6 0-60 (14.4) and 98 Z28 run 5.3 0-60 (13.6). OF course, these figures can go up or down .2 tenths.

You'll likely do better putting it in D and letting the ECU run things. E-shift and/or gate-shifting does not provide faster transitions between one gear and the next, just manual control over them. If your foot is on the floor, your trans will shift at or as close to redline as it can w/o running into the rev limiter - you, on the other hand, might hit the limiter trying to hold on for an extra hundred rpm or so. If that happens when you are racing someone, game over.
