Jeff I'm really sorry to see this happen to you. I would go ahead and claim the insurance just take out the turbo and play dumb. Bring it to a friends shop who has a good relationship with your insurance company and it will work to your advantage. I've had many claims and as long as the shop and the adjuster are cool they will cover you with no problems and to your advantage. Put full glass coverage on your car its an extra $20-30 a year and there is no deductable. I've also replaced my main fuse box becuase the stock one burnt out the ground, I purchased a used one from a junk yard for 150 easy.

I wish I can start tearing the car down right now and start rebuilding. But most likely I'm going to have to wait a week or a few before I can do that depending on how slow/fast the insurance people work.

I thought you had a turbo blanket? I'm guessing it didn't help much?

Turbo blankets dont help often when the fire starts outside of the blanket.

I just looked it up online, and new subharness for that section costs $1000 and that's with my discount lol! Hopefully that is the only damaged harness because the other main harness is $4000!
I've heard turbo blankets help a lot on heating issues.

it does help, but with the turbo sitting so high up and so close to the battery, tragedy might still happen =\. stock twins is fine because it's sitting very close to the engine.

i noticed that a lot of turboed is/gs catches on fire more than supra/sc. Maybe the battery has to do with it; just a correlation that i'm seeing so far.

Supras and SC have the battery located in the front of the engine bay. I'm relocating my battery to the trunk after I rebuild the car.

You hit the nail on the head right there Jeff. Sorry to hear of this. I thought this was a sick, sick joke, but then I still couldn't believe it, waiting for the punch line as I was reading, and then it slowly sunk in that this wasn't a joke. Glad you are ok and the damage didn't burn down the entire car. With your wrenching skills, you're car should be back better than ever.
