Default Ok, "WHAT SPECIAL TOOL?" VVT-I pulley

Hello brothers and sisters,

I bought my 98 GS3 and the receipt the prior owner gave me showed a timingbelt and cam seals replaced! However, there is a note by the mechanic that says "VVT-I pulley leaks" I call them and they tell me it must go to the dealership!

I do my research and find that the only special tool is to remove the balancer ( which I would like to be the next to rent from someone) but I cant find any info that says I need a special tool for the pulley? What are they talking about? Am I missing something?

Please let me know!!

Also, let me know what I need to do to be added to the list to rent the tool for the balancer/crank pulley.

Thanks,

so should I assume that the mechanic put the cam seals in incorrectly?

Before I tear into it I want to make sure I am prepared to fix or replace all problems.

Thanks for the info.

If he did not use OEM Toyota cam seals then it MIGHT leak. I made the mistake of using aftermarket cam seals once and my engine was leaking out out the front. I had to pull off the timing belt off and redo the seals. The OEM seals are only like $15-20.
