Lets make this easier - Which light is out? Your Low (HID) or your High (9005)?

Well it is in the one labled 9005 but there are two bulbs in my light.
One is on whenever my lights are on and the other only when I turn my brights on.

Sorry about all this confusion.
I don't remember if I mentioned it but my car is 1999 GS400

Thanks for all the help

Sooooooooooooooooo............which one is burnt out? The "One is on whenever my lights are on" OR the one that is on "when I turn my brights on."??? Or is it both?

The Small one is a #194 bulb, the big/High Beam bulb is the 9005

Okay I think we might be close to getting this figured out.
The one that is on wheverever I turn my lights on is the small bulb.
It looks pretty weak. The same bulb on the other light has also gone out.

The one that is out is the one that should be on when I turn my brights on.
The bright goes on on the other side when I hit the high beam
I am wondering since someone mentioned the ballast if the small one is connected to the ballest?

So is a 9005 bulb an HID

So this is what you need:

TWO #194 (For one "weak" and one burnt out - the smallest bulbs in the high beam housing)
ONE or TWO #9005 Bulbs (For Burnt out High Beam) I suggest changing these in pairs.

Only the Low beam is HID and Only the HID has a ballast. I wish i was closer to you. I would just say to meet me at the auto parts store so i could show you whats what and how to change them I hope this helps.

Like what everyone is trying to nail down, either your high beam 9005 is out, or the little city light 194 is out. Either way, you are talking about $1.50 for the 194 or about $3 for the 9005. I can't believe your dealer was about to rip you off and charge you $400+ to replace those bulbs. Heck, even if it was the low beam HID it wouldn't be anywhere near $400.

Anyway, when your headlights are off, generally the 9005 lights are on as a DRL. When you headlights are ON, the 9005 DRL goes off and the little 194 lights up.

And no, 9005 is not connected in any way to a ballast. Only and HID low beam D2R is connected to the ballast. The 9005 halogen bulb is the same bulb you find on many consumer cars including Corollas, Civics, and Hyundai's. Its been around for 30+ years or so.

My god, what was the Lexus dealer that was going to completely rip you off and pretty much steal over $400 of your money so I know never to take my car there or tell people to avoid them if I am ever in your area? I can't believe they had the nerve to charge that much and treat you like you are stupid enough to just pay it without questioning it. I would call them up and ask for the guy who quoted you that price and then ask him why he would do that to you and treat you that way and what kind of business is he running ridiculously overcharging you for parts that would cost under $15 at any store and take a few minutes to simply install, you may even want to talk to his manager or call Lexus corporate about that, that is outrageous. I would never go there again and I would tell everyone I know not to go there.

No disrespect to the OP, but............. it took him 2 pages to tell us one of his high beams was out. If the dealer was going to rape someone on labor charges, they knew exactly who to target.

The Thread should have been:

Post 1 - OP - One of my high beams are out can anyone tell me where i can get this replaced for less than the $400 the dealer wants?

Post 2 - any CL member - Autozone, Wal-mart, even the gas station. $5

Post 3 - Moderator - Thread Closed
