is it true that I can upgrade my airbag to the 01-05 in order to keep the airbag function?

if you mean put the 98-00 single stage on the 01-05 steering wheel, i dont see why it couldn't be done....


do you have a gs3 or gs4? If you put an eshift 01+ gs3 steering wheel on a 98-00 it wont do you any good, same going from 01+ gs430 wheel (non eshift) on a 98-00 gs4

Ok guys.... heres the correct information....My car is a 1998gs, the wood steering wheel has no e-shift controls. How do I go about getting this thing on my car with a functional airbag?

Sleeper - To do it right this is the ONLY way to do it.

Buy this new(er) wood steering wheel and buy a new/used (color-matching; obviously) airbag from a '02-'04? RX300. This truck uses the newer style airbag with regard to shape yet still has the single stage airbag components to coincide with the '98-'00 GS models. This is the ONLY way.

I'm NOT sure if you can (or want to because the lines won't line up) put your '98-'00 air bag in the newer style wood steering wheel.

Also, JUST RECENTLY; not sure if this is true or not someone mentioned that ONLY the 2001 GS models STILL HAD the single stage airbags! If this is true then just find a complete steering wheel w/airbag from a 2001 GS! GL with your efforts...I have ben looking into this for quite sometime now.

BTW, CL member Benjamin T has a really nice wood steering (but has the e-shift controls) WITH (what he claims) the newer style single stage airbag...it is black; hit him up if interested...I was all over it until i got shot down by wifey.
