thanks guys, i just ordered some aerocatch hood pins. they're nice and flush.

 

Good, my old Del Sol had a CF hood, I installed hood pins on them, the center oem hinge popped on freeway at speed, I saw the middle pop up, but the hood pins on the sides held it down.

 

You should look up the definition of what shatter is.

Shatter: 1. To cause to break or burst suddenly into pieces, as with a violent blow.

Windshields will not break into millions of tiny pieces. I think you should use the dictionary next time you do not know what a word means.

To get back on track here, A friend on mine has a VIS Carbon Fiber hood on his BMW and has no pins in the hood. He as yet to have a problem for 3 years now. Also he is a very aggressive driver by the way. So I guess it all depends on how it's made and installed. Good luck.......

 

yeah i have a vis hood. haven't had any issues for about 2 years. drive regularly on the highway too. long road trips to car shows. no issues as of yet. *knocks on wood*

 

Wow...that looks pretty much shattered to me; you know, broken into pieces from a violent blow...maybe from a hood. All the laminate does is to prevent the glass from fragmenting into the car.

Looks like someone needs to re-read his own posting of the definition of 'shatter'.

Seems to me that someone got his corn flakes pissed on (or dare I say shatter'd on) this fine Thursday morning.

To keep this on point with the original poster:

If you get a vented hood, then try the hood without pins. Cheap CF hoods break away from their safety latches because of air pressure. With a vented hood, you have a lot less difference in air pressure of what's in the engine bay vs. the air flowing over the hood. If you're getting a non-vented hood and of cheaper quality, then make sure you locate hood pins properly on the car (typically on the upper radiator support).

 

The aerocatch hood pins rock. I just ordered a set of the locking types. I plan on painting the hood black since a CF hood makes the car look too... sporty? Car came with it and I figure its just easier to paint it than finding a black hood and painting it.

As you can see my front end is still being worked on. Those hood pins are FUGLY

 

x1 not a fan of putting a pins on my hood, unless you decided to go all out racing. It's really up to you!!

 

First off, your definition of shatter does not say 'break into millions of tiny pieces' now does it. Secondly, how can you say that windshield that Jeff posted is not shattered?

I don't know what your problem is, but you are really overreacting to someone saying that their windshield shattered.

I'd also appreciate if you didn't take to attacking me and acting as if I were uneducated when clearly, your definition proves your reasoning wrong.

Further still, you seem to have a case of the 'mondays,' and if you do not, you are just a bitter person out to attack somebody on the internet because you have some issues.

 

the latching on the cf hood breaks when you are driving on the freeway is the reason why you would get hood pins... couldn't you just cover the grill on the inside a bit so no air gets underneath your hood... just a suggestion because hood pins look nasty if you are trying to go with the clean look of an OEM cf hood. just my two cents

#1. Carbon hood isn't VIP to begin with...its a tuner mod. If you want to go VIP, sell the hood.
#2. I'd definately run hoodpins if you're going to keep the hood. An aluminum wing would match pretty well with the look you're going for. And a CF diffuser.

 

you're kidding right? The grille opening allows airflow to the radiator to cool down the coolant in which also cools down the motor...

 

If you want the CF hood for functionality, you could always paint it.

But really, the hood isn't going to lighten the car much.

 

just get the flusmount hood pins. they dont look bad
