Default how many of you guys have audio systems in your cars?

for those of you who do, i wanna know how well the alternator in the gs300 can hold up, i have 1600watt rockford 1000a2 amp(underrated hehe) lol, and 2 p3 12s about to go in...

im gonna install them after finals, without a capacitor, will i have light dimming issues?

also, would i be better off upgrading my battery first before i get a capacitor?

I do. Still have not upgraded the alternator as I am very content with it.
With those equipments you putting in there is a possibility you might experience some dimming... to play it safe get at least 2+ fraud capacitor, you can get them at a real reasonable price.

One thing for sure you might want to upgrade your battery, the stock battery will hold up for a period, but will eventually give way. I have Optima Yellow Top and absolutely love it. I once played my system for a near an hour without starting the car & it cracked with such ease... no way stock battery can come close.

Good luck with the audio upgrade hope you post some after pictures.

Headlights won't dim if they are xenons, but I would still get a cap and run a better ground from the alt.

caps are only going to help for 'power blurps'. a cap releases all of its power in a fraction of a second.

i have a jl 1000/1 pushing a 13w7 with no caps, no extra battery's, stock alternator, and no dimming of the head lamps while driving and listening to it loud. i did do the "big three" upgrade when i installed the system

for those that read this and dont kow what "the big 3" are.. its a added ground from battery to chassis(1), a added ground from engine to chassis(2) and a extra run of 4guage or bigger from the alt to the battery(3)

I hear capacitors are a big waste of money (from an audio expert site). They suggest an efficient amps instead. Do the big 3 first before anything else. Anyone have alternator specs on the 2gs?

I'm getting ready to upgrade my system too Just in the process of researching the HU replacement. Already got PRS-D4200F for the 4 6.5'' door speakers... and may get the fostgate punch, PRS-D2200T, or a class T amp (200-400 wrms of clean bass) for the sub (two channels).

I'm sure I won't need to add any capacitor, upgrade the alternator, batteries etc...

Capacitors will cause more harm then help! Best way to go is add at least one battery or upgrade your stock to a 1800amp+ kinetic. I'm running 2 JL 1000/1 and a JL 450/4 on stock alternator... HOWEVER, the efficiency of the JL amp is pretty great. Do you know the efficiency of the rockford amp? I know the old school ones were awesome, but not sure if they came back after there 10 slump!

the battery? A LOT! also the "Big 3" has a HUGE difference! I'd do that FIRST then do the battery.

you gotta remember, a factory battery has only like what maybe 5 or 600 amps of storage, add another or upgrade to an 1800 or 2400 thats like 3 batteries in one! So your system will work longer off the battery before it starts to directly take power from your alternator. The reason lights start to dim is because the battery is draining faster than your alternator can fill it up. So having more amperage will allow the alternator to do its job with a lot of leg room...

as for the big three, use the biggest you can afford! 4 awg is fine, but I would do 0awg and call it a day! Heres a crummy pic of my "Big 3":

The bigger the better! thats just my opinion. However, anything is better than factory! Think of it this way. If you were thirsty and dehydrated like a mother effer! Would you want to drink water out of a 7-Eleven straw or a straw from Jack-in-the-Box?! LoL. and if you dont know the difference between the two.. do you want to drink out of a straw that is 1/8" thick or one that is an inch thick?
