mine handles like a charm in snow, and I too have the blizzaks and use snow mode. It might also be the fact that ive lived in this weather for too long now and driven in it too long as well tho.

Default I don't know why there is such mystery about snow mode - it simply extends what a...

....good driver would do in slippery conditions. The car starts in 2nd gear instead of first to limit torque (so the wheels don't spin as easily); the throttle is less sensitive for at least the first half of it's travel so it's easier to modulate the throttle to control the car. The throttle still responds however, so if you floor it, the car will take off like it would any other time; Shifts are slower and presumably smoother to avoid upsetting the car's balance (such as shifting while the car is turning). While I don't know what RPM shifts move to, I would expect RPMs to be lower, again to lower torque and to avoid upsetting the car's balance through a shift. People that experience higher mileage do so because snow mode encourages grandma-style driving - few jackrabbit starts, less responsiveness, short-shifting, etc.

And before someone asks or asserts that the car can be damaged from driving in snow mode all the time, let me say in advance that that is rubbish. It's a software program affecting throttle, transmission, etc - nothing happens if you drive in snow mode all the time.

Got a new catalytic converter a couple of weeks ago....car is noticeably quicker....mileage only moved slightly....could be my imagination.
