Default GS300 vs GS400

Im new to these forums and had a quick question about the comparison of the GS300 and GS400....

Are they any differences between the GS300 and GS400 aside from the engine?! Meaning length width body exterior ect...

Ive seen plenty of GS400 on stock 17inch chromes and from some reason they seem to look alittle more wide body than the GS300 on stock 17inch chromes....

Any reason for this or is my eye sight starting to fail me lol....

Thanks for any info....

Body is exactly the same. Other than the engine, some features were standard on the 400 while they were options on the 300.

400>300

Only about 1 mpg gallon difference. The 400 is much faster IMO. I drove the 300, then the 400, and after that, you will want the 400.

either way you can't go wrong. If I were just buying to daily drive......I'll go GS4....if I'm gonna mod.....then probably GS3. Good luck!

I actually have a 99 GS300... I'm pretty happy with it, it's my 2nd Lexus and i've always wanted a gs..I previously owned a LS. I do plan to do some mods but not til spring it's way too cold right now here in MD. I got the car with 65k on it for 13k so I feel I got a great deal and I purchased from a Lexus dealer with a 2yr warranty. They have already changed all door lock actuators, rear diff, front control arms, bushings and bearings LOL made sure to get my $$$ worth ;-) not to mention the interior is in great condition.

The 4x0 is faster thoughout the range, especially at higher speeds. Driving around town, though, the feel is pretty similar. Of course, this is if you are not mashing the pedal from light to light. The gearing on the 300s gives it pretty good response down low.

Ultimately, if your budget is tight and a 300 is all you can get, it is still a very nice car. In the used market, though, the price difference between a 300 and a 4x0 is not as big as new. If you can afford a 4x0, why not?

Probably one or both of the following:

1. $300 less cost = more $ for modding
2. Engine mods (i.e. turbo) are more available for the 2jz engine.

Unless you have time, patience, know-how, and/or $$$$ to deal with a boosted car, I'd say get the 4x0 and call it a day. Look for HIDs and heated seats (if you want) since they are not easily retrofitted. If you are interested in the Nav and you are getting a 98-00 400, then I'd skip the older HD Nav and go aftermarket. If a 430, then get at least an 02 for the Nav.

I initially wanted the 400, but gas was way too high at the time so i ended up gettin the 300...(see my quote)

But im def happy with it, aside from the fact it didnt come with HID's...but ima just get an hid kit to solve that issue...

i do have the stock 17in chromes though (got em brand new for $500) as well as full woodgrain(doors radio speedometer ect.), no heated seats but i dont really need them nor use them...

And i plan on an aftermarket touch screen for the navi, either an apline or the pioneer that most ppl have on here...

i do wish i had the e shift though, i bet its fun to drive!!

But thanks for all the input i wish i new about this forum before i purchased but oh well, atleast i have guidance now on future upgrades and mods...Thanks!

ill post some pics when i get home....
