sewell. no car has one less some 1998-2000 user bought one. the 2001+ models have a DVD based nav and we can interchange dvd's and/or nav ecu's if needed. the 1998-2000 models used a harddrive based nav unit and lexus stopped making upgrades for it in 2004. you have to replace the whole HD unit its 320.40 with the sewell discount

http://www.sewellpartsonline.com/par...l.asp?id=88792

be cheaper and better off to pull the nav unit, but a non nav climate control assy and replace the headunit with a aftermarket nav unit

Any updates from someone who has upgraded from a gen2/3/4 to a gen5? In searching the forums, I am finding conflicting results, as to it being a relatively easy swap like sakataj did here, to it being a nightmare bc of the difference in hardware... (screen size?)

I have a 2002 GS with ML Nav, want to upgrade, and just want to know if the gen5 is even an option...

If all else fails, someone needs to fabricate a way to mount the new Apple iPad into the dash, and create an app that controls the climate, navigation, show car and trip info, play music and movies, change and rotate the tires, etc. Ha!

no, last guy i was talking to bout this said he was gonna try it but i haven't heard back from it.

hmmm...not sure where you came bout someone saying it has a difference hardware. only thing different would be the nav ecu and as long as its PNP it should be fine....screen is the same size.

i would love to 100% know if the gen 5 is a update. i swear have heard it is and i thought i looked into one but for the price i passed.

lol @ the apple iPad....dunno what i think of that thing yet. ALOT of them gonna get broken quickly i can tell you that

sakataj,

Would the gen5 nav out of a Prius for example (like the gen4 you have in yours) also do the trick? It can be ANY Toyota gen5 nav right, not just the Lexus ones you have above?

If that's the case, at least that widens the search a little on the gen5 nav search...

Ouch... Ebay has a gen 5 for 1400, with no return possible...

I guess tho if it were to work like the gen 4 swap, its at least in range of what most of todays aftermarket Navs run...

yes i would assume....as long as a model of the pruis has the gen 5 nav ecu. u know maybe that would be the smarter route to go, to gather all the toyota cars that have the gen 5 nav ecu. anyone wanna help with that?

thats not what your looking for, you wont change your screen. u need this

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LEXUS...item3a515d7ab8

and actually that is the gen 5 nav ecu but it says its for europe only (i wonder if a us disc would work though)

if u read it, he says its a generic pic and actual item doesnt look like that but if the gen 5 plugs are like that, it might work. the plugs visually appear simiar but who knows since he says that isnt the pic

this IS a USD gen 5 nav (it comes with the TOUCH SCREEN DISPLAY, RADIO/CD CHANGER, CLOCK ASSEMBLY, NAVIGATION ECU WITH MAP DVD AND GPS ANTENNA but all you need is the nav ecu)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LEXUS...item3ef149e607

again here is a correct one and this one is JUST the nav ecu

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LEXUS...item3a526272a2

but look at the price with no return....pfffttt

easiest way guys is if you know someone or if you or your wife/mother in law/gf/best friend owns a car with a gen 5 nav be it a toyota or a lexus to see if they will let u unplug it and try it on yours....

I could not find a Gen. 5 ecu. So I got the Gen 4 and put that in. The Gen 4 is plug and play for gen 2/3. Fit right in and works well...
