^thats just for a monitor not for the whole system, but you can easily drop 600 bucks on a sunlight readable monitor
if the fit and finish of the monitor is nice, it's bright, and the touch screen works. it's 20 bucks less than just a lillput monitor from mp3car.com

I have a carputer also. Research should be done on mp3car.com, lots of tutorials and free software to get it running.
The key to make your drives last longer in a car environment is to mount it vertically and not horizontally. This way, the needle cannot go crashing down onto your platters with every bump in the road. I've used mine seriously for at least 3-4 years with ZERO problems...
