I usually pop them off with a flat-head screw driver which messes them up. The only other way I had luck with is get some mechanic gloves or anything with some rubber grip and some needle nose pliers.

try using a Fork....yea like the one you eat with, i know it sounds funny but it works the best!
i guess you just slide the fork under the pins and the thread of the pins is between the fork 'rails' and then just pop it out, very effective

The fork trick works well. If you have one of the generic wire crimper/strippers that come with a pack of connectors, these also work well provided you have room to put it between the jaws after the center pin (not where you would crimp, in other words).
