Fuel Injector cleaning/transmisson.
Im going to get my fuel injector cleaned out. The guy whos going to do it says he going to use his own fluid and will clean using high pressure hose, i guess. Do you guys recommend that or just regular cleaner through the tank. He's also going to change my transmission fluid. Both for $120. Is that too high...I would change the tranny myself, but never done it sooo, most likely next time

i personally just run a bottle of lucas fuel system treatment through a tank every now and then...seems to work just fine. fairly reasonable quote..it's really not hard to change the trans fluid, theyve got a DIY on here somewhere. But make sure he knows what he's doing. And before you say 'oh yeah no i know the guy and he knows plenty about cars' well that may be, but does he know plenty about LEXUS cars.

Hes pretty good with Lexus, he changed my spark plugs last year. I might do it my self, do I have to take off the under cover off? And I pour the ATF fluid through the dipstick hole?

A quick tip ahead of time:
-Drop the tranny pan, not completely at first, loosen one bolt more than the others to that the pan tips to one corner and you can direct the fluid where you want it to go. Take the magnet off the pan and clean it.

Thanks for the info....but now Iv been getting mixed readings on what type of ATF to use. I hear not use the Type IV and to use Dexron III. I guess Ill have to read whats on the dipstick. Is Type IV bad....?

Don't listen to what others say. For your lexus, use only toyota Type IV or Amsoil ATF. As for the injector cleaning stuff, I've always use BG44k injector cleaner through the gas tank. It is pretty hard to come by, but it will break up alot of carbon and gunk from your engine. I've used it for years in all of my toyotas and lexus. If you happen to find a place that does the complete BG system flush, go for it. It's expensive but does wonders..

Trust him, Toyota Type IV is the ONLY Fluid I would use. If you do it "regularly", as he said, you can just drain about 2 quarts (there's a bolt in the pan unlike Amercan made cars) and fill it back with "almost" 2 quarts of Toyota Type IV.

Also, I have had 4 Lexus cars, from GS-430 to LS-400 and I have ALWAYS used Regular unleaded gas with no knocks, no pings, no problems. Higher octane is for that purpose, and that purpose ONLY, to prevent knocking. If your car wants a treat, putting Premium gasoline in the tank is not the way to treat it. If you happen to hear a "ping", then go to mid-grade and give that a try. If that doesn't stop it, then go with Premium. I've NEVER had a ping in my engines using regular unleaded, and again, use Chemtool B-12. It's been around a long time and it dissolves varnish and gunk very well.

Here's another oppinion.
Mobil ATF 3309 is not synthetic. Most Lexus owners want to better protection of RX's tranny uses Amsoil Synthetic Universal ATF, see the side by side data comparasion of Mobil ATF 3309 vs Amsoil. Note the flash point and viscousity index differences.

I have found great success over the years in waiting until my fuel tank is down to about half or so and add a pint of Chemtool B-12 to the fuel tank. Do that often and you should never need a fuel injection "cleaning".
