Default Belt Sliced My Camshaft Position Sensors Wire..Question

Hey guys,

I was driving around today and noticed that my CEL turned on along with the VSC light (P0340...Happened before, but stayed away for a few months when I reset it) I tried to reset it again, but this time the CEL came right back on in seconds!! I got home, opened my hood and saw that one of my belts sliced the wires, which in return probably gave me the CEL. Oh and with the wires cut would it be safe to drive? I don't want to short circuit anything because the wires might touch each other. I reset the check engine light again and this time it stayed off, but only after securing the wires. Oh and I'm assuming it's my CPS because that's what my OBD2 computer is telling me.

1. What I want to know is if I should cut the broken piece and solder new wires in, but keep driving until I do so.

Or

2. Replace the sensor..(More costly)

One other thing is that I have no idea how to replace that sensor, but I assume it involves a lot of work, because the sensor itself appears to be in the block (that's where the wires are coming out from and there is a grommet covering the hole) I suggest everyone look under there hoods because the wires are supposed to be secured with a clip, but somehow they managed to free themselves. Oh and this is for a 98 GS400.

Thanks for the help guys!!

I thought about that, but it's too dark to take pictures with my phone and my compact digital isn't working. I looked on a lexus parts site to find where the sensor is, but I couldn't find it. I could possibly get a picture up tomorrow...What I'm really worried about is the wires causing a short if they touch each other.

You could simply fix the wires, no need to replace the sensor whens its not actually broken. I would fix the wire by soldering them together and shrink wrap them to keep the water out of the wires also. You could just cover the open section of wires with electrical tape for the time being, so you can keep driving it. But I would fix that ASAP due to water/corrosion getting into the wires over a period of time. I'm also assuming the timing belt was done on it not to long ago and the wires werent resecured to the t-belt cover on the drivers side.
