Replaced ball joints = same clunking sound
Hey guys, I have a 2000 GS300 and know that the lower ball joints should be replaced. So I bought a pair from Carson's (~$145) and threw them on. I still have the same clunking noise coming from my passenger side while driving on rough surfaces at about 10-15mph. Any thoughts on what it might still be? Please help! Thank you for you time.

Hey I just replaced those lower ball joint and everything is perfect now . I did change the TIE ROD too (outter) . U said u heard the clunking noise coming from your passenger side while u driving but what about when u parking or when u turning all the way either left or right did u still hear clicking noise ( like something is cracks) ???

Mine was making a rattling noise from the right frotn that turned out to be a bad upper strut mount. I wouldnt neccesarily say that mine was "clunking" but a strut mount rattle does make the noise at low speeds over rough pavement. Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply. I did NOT replace the outer Tie rod ends. Nothing unusual when parking or when turning all the way left or right. Only "cracking" sound I hear is when taking off after the car has been parked and sitting for a while (mainly on cold mornings/days). I hear a "crack", but can not pin point where exactly from the front end it's coming from. I hear it once and that's it until I let the car sit again for a while. But I'm sort of more concern with this clunking noises....*sigh...$145 and still not fixed. It's driving me nuts.

My mechanic told me that the 2GS and 1IS are particularly prone to end clips/caps that make a clicking noise.
I had new springs, shocks, ball joints, and tie rods all replaced on my car the other day and it still makes that slight clicking noise in low speed maneuvers. He said this is completely normal for our cars...nothing to worry about.
Now, discerning between your ball joints going bad and your end caps clicking...I have no idea. Sorry
