My wife's current tires on her 2GS are getting close to the wear indicator bars and I'm beginning to look at replacements for her. Need some brand and model suggestions on which tires I should look into. She does quite a lot of driving, need tires with excellent dry traction and good wet traction as well. Forgot to add that the size is 235/45-17 if that matters. Thanks in advance, folks!

Toyo Proxes T1R.
Great traction dry, awesome traction wet, wears nicely, cheaper compared to comparable tires, and mine was quiet. Also OEM on TVRs
. I also went through a set of Kumho Ecsta ASX, PilotSport AS and Continental ContiExtreme AS but they weren't as good as my Proxes4 AS I have now. But if you live in "Sunny Socal", I doubt you'll need AS tires.

Looks like S drive dropped $4 per tire. Now $120. Check the first link.
Now in this case, $19.00 more per tire. Tough decision.. but whichever you see value. Only $76.00 more per set. May be smart to go with what you like since $76.00 can go you a long while on a set of tires.

I'd look at tirerack.com and see what's on sale / cheap
Maybe a set of Summer Sumitomos or Kumhos SPT would make sense. I would also look for tires with a high UTQG (wear life)

Falkens are pretty bad in the wet...from my experiences anyway.
since its for you wife, i would get quieter tyres rather than performance focused ones.
I've had Yokohama C.Drives on my old car and they were the best tyres. Quiet and a good performer in wet and dry.

Don't buy the cheapest tire, you don't have to buy the most expensive one either, but sumitomo, nankang, nexen... are the bottom of the barrel.
I really like the S-Drive, but I was looking for a performance/comfort based tire.
For an All-Season/Comfort based tire, look into the Yokohama Avid V4S, H4S, or the YK520. The Falken ZE912 would probably work out okay, but it doesn't have as many functional irrigation channels. (doesn't matter too much in socal).
Or you can just buy Michelins, then it doesn't matter what you buy, you get a great tire :P
