take it off, my car had an aftermarket wood trim kit on it when i bought my gs. get a plastic paint scraper and goo gone from home depot. its still a pia, but the scraper is really helpful. be careful on the ac and audio unit though since its painted and can chip.

I did a quick search.. it is a JDM kit. The thread died in 2003 so I am not sure if its still available. Plus there seemed to be an issue about the center console. Anybody know where to buy a "full" kit??
Plus I have the wood steering wheel. Its all or nothing on the wood as its a very high contrast between the blackwood and cherry I have...

Man, you didn't even post a picture! At least let us laugh at your car's previous owner.
I still think the designer's had a brain fart on the wood thing. Seems like they either forgot a couple of pieces to finish it tastefully or had a disagreement over what piece to do next and the deadline arrived to deliver the plans, so nothing happened.
Anyhow, after you've been driving for a while you won't notice the stock wood pieces anymore. But on the cheap kit stuff, get rid of it or look into removing the parts and having it done professionally how you want it to be. Search around, many options.
