Hey C.L! I just got my 2001 gs300 like 1 week ago. Its a really nice car but there is 1 thing, it has a lot of wood grain [the fake kind]. Im kinda not feelin it. Should I take it off or leave it on? Give me ur opinion.

Thx C.L

Are you talking about one of those trim kits that people pay an ungodly amount of money for, or the factory trim on the wheel and doors? The factory trim is nice and looks good, the kits...not so much. They look too much like an afterthought to me, especially since I know they are 3M DS taped to plastic!

If it's a kit, taking it off is a PITA but can be done (use chemicals sparingly as you run the risk of damaging the leather if you get it on there too much). If it's the factory trim, I say leave it.

Well, it will come off, but I don't think "easy" is a word I would use to describe it. "Frustrating as hell", "irritating", and "God **** it!!" YMMV, though. If it wasn't put on that well, and it sounds like it wasn't, it might be a bit easier for you.

Good luck, mang!

Remove.. I think those kits look cheesy.. there is even too much wood from the factory but the kits.. ewww.
I wish Lexus had a sportline interior that we could get. It would be like where our factory wood is but be aluminum or the dark dark black wood grain..

I agree that the kits look bad, way overdone.Get it off ASAP!

I like the factory wood myself but if you don't care for that refinishing is always an option.

Jake, I've seen blackwood trim on the GS, (I believe they're replacement pieces rather than a glue-on kit, maybe JDM???) IMO it looks great with a black interior. I'm not sure where you can find the pieces but I'm sure a search would give you a good start if that's something you'd be interested in.

I did a quick search.. it is a JDM kit. The thread died in 2003 so I am not sure if its still available. Plus there seemed to be an issue about the center console. Anybody know where to buy a "full" kit??
Plus I have the wood steering wheel. Its all or nothing on the wood as its a very high contrast between the blackwood and cherry I have...

If it's over-loaded with those cheap eBay wood kits, rip it off!!! The stock trim isn't that bad.
