To anyone reading this thread for advice DO NOT USE BONDO

Bondo absolutely will not last. Probably not even a few months. There is a ENORMOUS amount of shock that goes through the trunk when it is closed (or slammed) it will not be able to hold up no matter how much bondo you use or how hard you hope it works. If a shop quotes you ANY price ask them if they are going to use bondo. This is a yes or no question, if they answer is YES, then it is not worth a dollar of your money. If you are not going to weld the holes closed (which if it is done incorrectly could warp the metal of the trunk) then JB weld ($6) 2,000 grit sandpaper ($5) and touchup paint ($9) is your best option.

1. Unscrew the 4 bolts that hold the trunk on.

2. Take off the trunk trim piece. There are 6-8 plugs that hold it into place. If you don't have a panel tool use 2 flathead screwdrivers with painters tape over the tips. Put one on each side of the plug and pry them off.

3. Unplug the wires that go to the taillights.

4. Lay a peice of painters tape on the OUTSIDE of the trunk. Make SURE that it is flush and flat, do not push it into the hole with your finger or the palm of your hand, use something flat like the edge of a book to smooth the tape over the holes.

5. Flip the trunk over about put a glob of JB weld in the hole. Do NOT mash it in there or it will push the JB weld through the hole and push the tape up. I would take a pass with the book again to make sure that the area is smooth.

6. Let the JB weld dry completely. Pull the painters tape off. If you do it right the JB weld will be perfectly flat and will not need to be sanded down.

7. Use touch up paint to cover the JB weld. Feather the touch up paint into the factory paint slightly this will really help hide it.

8. Wet sand the touch up paint gentley with 2,000 grit to make it smooth.

If you do it right it should be barely, barely noticeable. If you don't tell anybody its there the odds are you will be the only person on earth who even knows there were holes there. JB weld does NOT **** around. Hope that helps.

This sounds like a good plan...I'm trying this over the next week or so! I'll have to figure out a cheap 3rd brake light option...LED strip across the top like Bentley was another member's idea I liked...not too expensive, either...and unique!
