First off, I want to say, hello all. I'm new to CL and in the market for a GS400 '98-01 or GS430 '01 or so. Whatever catches my eye with a good price.
Ok now for the inquiry - I have been browsing around online and what not and I've been seeing many GS4's with WELL over 100k miles on them. I mean, I see owners with 150k+ miles charging way over $9,000 for some of these. I can't see myself paying that much for a car that's not guaranteed to give me at least double what the current mileage is.
So, I am wondering, with regular TLC oil change, tune, etc. - How long will the engines last on these models? Can anyone shed some light for me? Thanks for reading.Peace!
P.S. Sorry if this has been asked before. I tried searching, but didn't find an answer.

I'll add that I'm not sure about the mileage limits on the engine but I'm at 172k and mine is still strong as ever. No engine problems what so ever...just regular maintenance less than most cars.

Welcome to CL!
Here's a thread that might be somewhat helpful. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...gs-thread.html
There's a link in the first few posts there to a thread by a member with over 300,000 on his GS400! This is pretty reasonable IMO if the car is well-maintained, look for a car with maintanance records or at least have it checked out to get a feel for how it's been taken care of and any potential problems.
Good luck with your search!

Alright, outstanding! Oil changes are a given. Fresh fluids, check! Thanks for the input everyone. I'm going to look for someone who has plenty maintenance records on their GS4. I definitely will feel more comfortable this way. Thanks again!

You may grow tired of the car before the engine even dies! Seriously, I have never heard of the 1uz-fe blow up or break down due to age. Most of the stories you hear are from those who didn't take care of their car(s). The UZ-series family has been in production for 20 years now.

Mine have 140k and still running like new. Last Tuesday was in the race track and almost beat a Magnum RT8.(only by one car) 4.lt vs 5.7 and 6 years newer.
About 6 month ago a Policeman told me that his v8 Ford patrol have more than 400k without a failure. Imagine our more refined cars! Proper maint. ensure longevity.

I would wager that with proper routine maintenance and not counting any unusual unforeseen breakdown, the engine and trans should last 400-500K miles. The things that will kill the engine life if neglected or breaking are things like the cooling system, water pump, timing belt. Things that are wear and tear items that are not taken care of in a timely manner that when they go out can cause major damage to the engine.
These aren't the old 60's-70 days. Almost every single car now days can easily run past 100K and up to 200K miles if taken care of. Heck, even BMW's run well past 200K miles.
