I think it may actually produce more light output on the road. My OEM HIDs on my 430 sucks. Compared to others with 9006 rebased D2Rs in their halogen 2GS optics they put out more light output but it is more scattered and more glare. If these control the glare that would be a major bonus. I've only had 2 cars with reflector HIDs. My 03 GS430 and my 99 LS400. The 99 LS400 actually seemed batter at light output than my GS. The other cars I owned had projector HIDs and it was no comparison at all.
So yea, projector HIDs are the best, but if we are simply comparing OEM 2GS reflector HIDs, they suck anyway so these are a cheap alternative than spending 4X as much for a projector retrofit. I mean seriously, the OEM 2GS HIDs don't put much light on the road compared to even some of the Acura reflector HIDs of those same years.

Speaking of light output... my parents have a 2000something S500, with stock HID's, but its headlights are also the patterned glass type... I dont think theres a projector in there. But the light output in that car is pretty damn good, and it had HID high beams as well, and those light up the road like crazy.

I'm sure there is a good reason but why isn't anyone using this style headlight?

The price is very attractive and a good friend bought this same brand for his 1997 GST eclipse and they look awesome! quality looks good enough on the head light but I doubt the package version with 6k HIDs for $300 may be questionable.
