Those bulbs do have more light shielding to control glare than the D2R, so I don't don't it will help with the glare on the non HID reflector bowls. On top of that the OEM HID bowls are not that great anyway so I'm willing to bet it will actually work out pretty well in the 2GS non HID housing.

Well, yea, you need the HID ballast as well, but the idea is these bulbs will supposedly produce a better beam pattern with less glare than if you were to stuff a 9006 based D2R/S into the halogen housing. The OEM HID's are not that great anyway. Projectors are the way to go.

I think it may actually produce more light output on the road. My OEM HIDs on my 430 sucks. Compared to others with 9006 rebased D2Rs in their halogen 2GS optics they put out more light output but it is more scattered and more glare. If these control the glare that would be a major bonus. I've only had 2 cars with reflector HIDs. My 03 GS430 and my 99 LS400. The 99 LS400 actually seemed batter at light output than my GS. The other cars I owned had projector HIDs and it was no comparison at all.
So yea, projector HIDs are the best, but if we are simply comparing OEM 2GS reflector HIDs, they suck anyway so these are a cheap alternative than spending 4X as much for a projector retrofit. I mean seriously, the OEM 2GS HIDs don't put much light on the road compared to even some of the Acura reflector HIDs of those same years.

these are the same as d2r bulb just in plug and play format. d2r is for reflector bowl housing. the d2r bulbs have a small strip of film on the bulb that blocks the lght frm bouncing on top of the bowl that will produce glare.
i have d2r bulbs from a guy in my neighborhood which he rebased into 9006 plug. www.hidexpert.com he has factory bulbs rebased. got a machine to do that.t.
d2s does not have the strip on the bulb but morre light output for projetors

i did it and it looks somewhat like the oem hid now. i am going to drive at night to see the light output. the whole thing took me 2-3 hr. but should be a lot faster since the metal sheet i used is very hard to bent.
