I've called a couple of places, and they say I can either get the OEM one for around $1800, or an "equivalent" for about $270.
Any reason to go with the OEM windshield?

There are other threads on this subject so try searching for more info.
The "equivalent" is just fine as long as its a decent brand. I think PPG is a widely accepted brand and I have been happy with it. I had bad luck with Pilkington. You'll find that alot of brand names are produced by the same parent company but are different grades of quality.
I don't know if you'll find anyone here that will tell you the OEM glass is worth the money.

OEM glass is worth it... well, if you care that is..... I've got my windshield replaced under insurance, it's a PPG, the first day I've already noticed this... if you look from the driver seat or worse lean forward from the seat and look at the passenger side...... the image is a bit distorted and wavy...
I first saw this wavy effect on a 97 ish dodge caravan, it's the same... you do get used to it for a while... but if you drive 2 cars, you might have a bit of hard time and you might get a headache for the first few days you drive with the non oem.

Thanks for the advice. I'm mostly concerned about safety.
How distorted and wavy? Enough that I'd want to spend $1500 more to go with an OEM windshield?

well, safety shouldn't be a problem with PPG, the distorted and wavy image is fine after a while when you get used to it... so not much point to go OEM actually. Unless you want to go for perfection....
