GS400 vs. M3 vs. S4
Anyone ever race an S4 or M3?
There is this guy that says the S4 will win every single time.
Here is what he said:
Well, since I own both an S4 and a GS400, I can tell you there is no match-up...the S4 will always win! The only catch is maybe at the very top end where the GS does pull very hard.
My friend has a heavily modified M3 and we raced the GS vs. M3 and of course the M3 would pull away from the start but at around 120, the GS400 closes in quite fast and eventually passed the M3 at around 140. I have yet to get the S4 that fast but I assume a chipped S4 would be able to outrun a GS400 but maybe not a stock one.

The other night, on my way home from a hot spot , a brand new M3 made it's way up beside me and slowly passed. We were on a 4-lane highway(perfect opportunity to race) on a roll of about 60. No one ahead. I didn't even think about trying. Too many factors against me - 3 people in my car, a ticket last month, and I had been out .

Cuz if that man raced an 20001 M3 his story is a flat out lie. There is NO competition for the E46 M3 between the S4 or the GS400...Believe me, I have one...

Cruise back through the Kills sections, and you'll find a lot of details.
The quick and dirty version is as follows:
S4 will beat a modded or stock GS4, probably;S4s are pretty zippy
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...threadid=28890
M3 (ver e36) - stock GS4 can hang in straight line, but may loose
M3 (ver e36) - stock GS4 will loose in corners
M3 (ver e36) - modded GS4 can hang and may win (I have) e36 story here
M3 (ver e36) - modded (susp) GS4 can barelyhang in corners, but may loose
modded M3 (ver e36) - good luck!
M3 (e46) - forget it
Though I would like to run one in a straight line dash on city streets....
These are just my impressions from experience with my own driving, driving a couple of M3sm and some other stuff mixed in; no, not BS either
Brent, why don't we meet somewhere in the middle chief?! How's that monster treatin ya?

The monster is fine. I used to drive a heavily modded 300ZXTT (400+HP) and the M3 just feels so much stronger at the lower RPMS...I never knew a NA motor could feel like it has turbos...
SuperLex: I suggest you do a search if you are talking about E36 M3, this subject once again has been beaten to death on this forum. We are recycling material again

Though the mods (before SRT) don't sound like much, I've actually given an E55 a run for the money. But, he was a car length ahead all the way through. Still want a rematch with the E55!

Ive run my freinds S4, 4 times the first time was on the highway and we ran from 50-140mph from 50 I started to pull I was ahead of him by almost a car length by the time I hit 70mph then he mis-shifted and I just pulled away ( gotta love the automatic ). Second and third race was from a roll of 5-10mph till about 70mph and I was ahead by almost 2 car length's. Fourth race we were from 0-80mph he got a jump on me and was ahead of me by half a car but when we hit 80mph I have pulled almost a car lenght ahead.

I have a buddy with a chipped S4, and while I have not raced him, from seat of the pants feeling that car is sick and I would not stand a chance. Depending on how badly they want to beat on their car, they can get an amazing launch by dropping the clutch and taking off with all wheel drive.
Also, with the inexpensive chip they are running over 300HP in a car that is lighter then our car. Seems unlikely of winning.

The secret is dropping the clutch. I raced an S4 last year from 0-111. I torque launched. I left him in the dust. I pulled approximately 1 1/2 car length by 80. At 75-95 he maintained the same distance and it look like he was catching up. After 95mph the GS was strong and kept pulling away for approximately 3 car lengths at 110.
The only way the S4 will beat a GS400 is if he drops the clutch--I wonder how long his transmission will last.

Now, I don't get into quote mags and the like becasue of their reputation, but I will quote this snippet from Edmunds, only because I say it DOES give the S4 a
"snow ***** chance in hell beating a GS 400"
Take it FWIW
On the drag strip, the unfailing grip of the all-wheel-drive system made for awkward launches, but we managed a respectable 6.0-second zero-to-60 time and crossed the quarter-mile timers in 14.55 seconds. Not quite M3 numbers, but considering the added weight of the Quattro system, we didn't expect the S4 to outrun its lighter competitor.
I'd venture a guess that gives it a "snow ***** chance in hell beating a GS 400" but who really cares about my guesses, I know.
