NEW to ClubLexus considering a Lexus!
hey guys im new to this site, and i wanted to introduce myself before i start posting and asking questions. my name is Ivan and im from California i am considering buying a 2001 Lexus GS300, ill be commuting alot and i want to guy something that is confortable reliable and good on gas.
the GS im looking at is a 2001 GS300 with 88xxx miles. its a clean title and looks clean overall, with the stock chrome rims. the guys asking $10k for it. but i think i can talk him down.
is there any maintenance service that needs to be done at that mileage? also, is there any sertain problems of issues with this model that i need to be worried about? and finally how good is the GS300 oin reliability and retaining its value?
any and all advice will be greatly appreciated!
thanks in advance!

welcome to the club.
You should have no problems waiting til 100k.
If it hasn't had scheduled maintenance done for 90k then subtract that from the asking price (and then some) I wouldn't pay any more than 9k for that but I haven't seen it myself.
in normal economic environments the car holds value pretty well.

You could probably get a GS430 for an extra 2k, and its a much better car. Despite the two extra cylinders, the fuel mileage is pretty much the same - but it has an extra 100lb/ft torque, stock HIDs, bigger rims, more wood trim inside (ashtray, shiftknob), chrome bezel on center console, and often comes with a wood steering wheel.

you SHOULDNT have a problem waiting until 100k miles. i wouldnt go much more though considering if the timing belt goes, or if the ribs are worn and jumps timing...it DOES have an interferance motor. the valves will bend and you can throw the motor in the garbage

Heavy cars are out of favor so I would think you could push on price a little. If it's got service records and comes up clean on a pre-purchase inspection, then 9-10k is fair unless he hasnt done the 90K service (1-1.5k in costs)
