Chrome rims - tires leaking, low pressure
I have been battling my rims for about six months now, about six months after I had new tires put on.
The chrome plating if separating from the aluminum at the tire seal, causing very small, very slow leaks. I have had the issue now on three of four wheels, and very cold weather seems to make them leak faster.
The shop that did the tire work says that they see this on chrome-plated rims and that to fix it, they grind the tire mount surface smooth and apply several coats of paint to create a new surface.
Is this the right procedure? Other suggestions?

Ask how much they charge and consider how much you want to spend.
If money is no object, just get new rims. but of course money is an object. So how much it'll cost for the procedure should play a big role.
If it's inexpensive, just have them do it, and it'll probably fix the problem. If it is expensive, then you might want to consider other options

This is a common "No Warranty" temporary fix. It may or may not correct the problem. Even if it does there is no way of knowing for how long.
Re-chroming or replacing the wheels is the only permanent solution.

whether it's the right way or not, sounds kinda sketchy.
although it'd be the costly way out, i would say that you should find yourself a new set of wheeeeeelz

If its leaking from the bead/rim, we usually use rubber sealers, chalk, and a grinder to smooth out the lip/drop center of the wheel. It sticks the bead better onto the rim so air can seat it correctly without leaking. Well, America's Tire does it for free...
