Remove rear seat
The trunk lock mechanism in my GS400 went south and the trunk won't open. I tried everything and it isn't happening.
I'm trying to remove the rear seat to get access but it's no piece of cake. Another thread here said just remove the bolts behind the headrests and the seat back comes off. Wrong.
It's bolted at the bottom and the bolts are under the seat. I think I can get them out without removing the seat, but what is the trick to it?
It's secured just under the front edge on the L & R sides at the middle of the two passenger seats, but no apparent way to get at whatever secures it. It doesn't pop out when I pull up, so it must be fastened. I pulled the carpet back but that didn't reveal anything.
Any help would be appreciated.

yeah just give it a tug.. the bottom seat is just clipped in. and like infamous 1 said there are 4 bolts on the bottom and 2 behind the backrest for the top piece.
my friend's trunk didn't open so i took of the brace behind the seat and crawled in the trunk and pulled the latch.

remove the lower back seat, just pull up on 2 sides near the front edge.
remove back seat backing by unbolting 2 bolts behind head rests and 6? by the bottom by the seat belt locks.
move the backing forward to you have space to work with
remove the C pillar trims by just pulling it out
on the near edge of the rear deck, there's about 3 plastic tabs you just pry out with flat head
pull the rear deck towards you and move it so you have room
you'll now see the stock sub.
DO NOT just pull the rear deck's speaker grill! I was told that and did it, yes I do see the sub and bolts, but it broke all my tabs for the grill and now I have no way of securing it down other than just gravity and tape.

Got all the stuff unbolted and removed. But the trunk liner isn't something that comes out easily. I guess you just bend it back and crawl over it. Someone said get a small boy in there.
I don't think my 200lb, 60yr old *** qualifies as a small boy. But I'm goin' in.
Hope I can get out!
Thanks for all the help guys.

Man what a PITA!
I took out the 2 bolts that hold the lock to the trunk, and removed the wire from the lock mechanism, but that's not enough. Trunk still won't open.
It looks like the lock won't separate from the portion that's secured to the body just below the lip of the trunk.
I tried the ignition key in the keyway and it partially turns, but it won't unlock it!
Does anyone know the trick to this?
Thanks for your help.

I had a similar issue. The back seat is by far the easiest part of the job. After you remove the seat, you have 2 crossmembers behind that, then you have the trunk carpeting. Just push that out of the way and crawl back there. Here is a link to mine. Make sure you order the lock and striker. As I had to drive around for a few days with no back seat, waiting for the striker. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...wont-open.html
