Well I called the dealer and I was given the "your on your own but I can help you and repaint it for $275". I assumed as much...

Anyone know of a reputable body shop in the greater Milwaukee area?

Ouch, sorry to see that man! Time for a repaint; does the rest of the bumper look freshly painted or are there alot of rock chips.

I'm getting my bumper repaired and painted after hitting a raccoon, the body guy quoted me $250 for the paint part but he's almost family.

I would bring this to the attention of the Police, or a small claims court. Dealership is responsible for the condition of the car. I think they ripped you off on that deal.

I would like too.. but like Clear2Cloz said below, "as is" is all over the purchase agreement. By the time I get them in court and have the layers\court fees and headaches.. you know. Plus them being 2.5 hours away and I don't want to bring my car to them as have them screw it up further. I may just put a bad review up here or there on the web though..

I know.. when you are there it all promises and smiles. Then you call back and they are all defensive and cowardly. I will chock this up to experience.

Hey Jake,
Sorry to hear this. We talked some when you bought this car as I looked at it too. One thing I would do is have the body shop you pick do a full inspection of the car to see if any other work was done. A trained eye might find something. Plus don't forget the state of IL doesn't require repairs or damage to be reported to the state or carfax. I've been bitten by this in the past. Always take a car to a body shop to have it looked at first. Worth the $75 !!!! If so and other repairs are found, you might expect other issues down the road. These guys advertised this car on EBay. Did you buy it direct? Might be able to put a negative rating against them if so. Good luck and I hope it was just a quick repaint of the front bumper only!!!!!

Hello,
No I didn't get it from ebay. I ended up going to the showroom. I was looking at 2 in your area. One at Silver auto sales, the one I got, and the one at Prestige. The one at Prestige was the one on Ebay, I am not sure the one from Silver was on, but I may be mistaken. Either way I am sending pictures to my salesperson, but am not holding my breath. I will defiantly take your advice though and have them give it a good once over...

Make sure you get a quote from the body shop and have a good idea if anything else was fixed before sending those pics to your salesperson or dealer. You want to make sure you have all of your cards infront of you before you go asking them for anything. What if they find more? Also if the dealer isn't willing to help, make sure you let them know you will be posting the results of your purchase with online forums and having a coversation with the BBB if they don't work with you. Best sent through email especially if they reply with an answer. I work with a large boat dealer specializing in High end Sport yachts and yachts. Negative press is a very bad thing!!!! . Sold As is or not, if someone feels they have been wronged, paying them off for $200 or $300 is nothing compared to the potential loss of business! Good Luck!!!!

Thanks for the info ChitwnGS!!

I went to a body shop on lunch. The local Lexus dealer works with them so I figured I would start out at the high end. Turns out that in his opinion it was resprayed, but not recently. I know the car was being driven by the owner of the dealership for a time. At the dealer I say a full blown spray booth and all the goodies, so I was impressed.. now, not so much. Well the damage:

$400-500 to paint the top peeling portion. No warranty as he will be working with someones mess essentially.

$866.76 repaint the whole bumper. No warranty as the bumper may not be factory.

$1,051.69 new bumper and chrome piece painted.

I am getting more angry now.. as this is modding money!!!!!

You could paint it yourself. You would need to study up and learn how and buy a sprayer, primer, paint, clearcoat, and air compressor but it would still most likely be a good deal cheaper then repainting the whole bumper and you would be able to paint other parts if you need to because you have the supplies and know how.

That is to much.
I had my rear bumper painted for $250.00 from a good shop and it matches perfect.

Yea I knew they would be.. I just want to see what the top would be to get a range. I am getting other quotes this week. He mentioned something about the bumper not having a good bonding agent or something in the plastic. That is why he wanted to work with a new factory cover?? Sound legit or some bull.

I know.. I know. But the fact of the matter is that I was told time and time again, "this thing is mint, NO incidents, just like new, we don't sell damaged cars, yada yada yada". Then come to find out it has been hit and repaired, I was being lied to! I know its buyer beware and I should have had it looked at by a body shop but being 2.5 hours away in the middle of now where how was i going to find a quality body shop>>?
So I am just venting.
