Anybody with a '99 GS300 with Hesitation problems?

mine is pretty bad
It feels as though the throttle response is delayed a bit more than half a second. When my car is already in motion and I apply a bit more gas (opening the throttle) damn thing still stalls then... whip-lash. The dealerships supposedly offer an ECU upgrade. If anybody is interested I'll do more research into the subject matter.

what rpm?
I'm talking about crusing speed say 25-45mph then add gas the pedal halfway abruptly. I usually suffer a pause and the car jumps forward. I am not sure if the hesitation is dependent on low range rpm unless car is moving. Any body else?

yup... that is the exact thing I have on my GS. 
it's normal.. they changed my ecu already... same thing... only thing i wonder is how my mom tends to avoid it when she drives... I could never get used to the way the thing shifts... when i drive, it always pauses and jerks into place... when my mom drives (she does drive faster than me) I never feel the hesitation when I'm riding in the passenger seat when she drives! maybe the trick is learning when and how to punch the accelerator?

That's exactly what I am talking about. Was the ECU swap/reprogram a recall deal or was this a hush-hush situation between you and your dealer? I heard stories of ECU's being swapped esp. the '99 GS3s.

I don't think it has to do with VVT-i. Think of VVT-i as catalyst in the engine.

Seriously though, there's a lot of software and electronics in our GS's, and I think abrupt inputs can make it pause to figure out what it should do... think about it, the car's probably 'thinking' "oh, lots of gas input, ok, gotta go faster, but hey, I'm in the wrong gear, oh wait a bit, I gotta make sure I don't spin too much, is the driver steering, so the VSC check's gotta be done too......."
Couple of tips - if you have a GS4 or 2K1 GS3 - use e-shift - MUCH less hesitation. Either way, use 'power' mode - also less hesitation in my view. Finally, use part throttle rather than mashing it, and then when it shifts down, press harder... I think that often gives a better response.

the ecu was replaced under a recall... also I complained of rough idle in the morning... very rough... that got rid of it. but the hesitation is still there when I drive... not when my mom drives.. dunno... just guess I have to get used to it... 
I love my car though.. saved my life.. is a joy to ride... I swear, sometimes, i just go out for a drive because it is so darn comfy... 'cept for that darn hesitation bit... but that only happens at low speeds...
anyway... 4 in the morning.. gotta go!

i have the hesitation problem too. when im cruisin and floor it, there is a second of hesitation before it gives the car pushes me into the seat. it usually takes a while because the rpms have to go past 4000 for it to do that .. kinda feels like a vtech kicking in... this was discussed a LONG time ago and somebody had a recall # or a ECU # or something like that and i told the dealer about it when i went in and they came back and told me i already had the new ECU. if i remember correctly, the problem was in teh ECU for cars made before 6/99 or something like that.. or 3/99. cant remember.

hm... that's interesting. i got my car on nov. 7, 1998... when the '99 models just came out... or soon after they came out... how i didn't get a recall letter? can you guys explain to me if that hesitation thing is supposed to happen or not? because i'll have to go back to my lexus dealer and have 'em fix it...
