Remember with Toyota killed the resale of the Supra's by dropping the list price on the new one by something like 10 grand? I don't remember the exact number since I never owned a Supra, but I remember thinking just how pissed off those owners must have been.

Damn, think about it. The 97 gs300 was as expensive as the GS400 was when it came out in 98. The GS300 then dropped in price by $8K. I can see it happening again...

in 96', Supra TT was $50k, Supra NA was $40k
then in 97', the Supra TT was $40k, Supra NA was $30k
-- also, since 97' was an "anniversary year" model, all options that you had to pay for were standard.

imagine buying a 96' Supra NA without many options, only to find that a Supra TT fully loaded was available for the same price a year later...

You'd think that a 1990 ES250 made in 7/89 (in lower quantites than just about any other Lexus model) would be a rare find (it kinda is) and being the first car from such a reknowned make would also bring $$$. Well, it hasn't happened, and probably won't for a good 4-5 decades. Don't hold your breath.

Right... there's a difference between 'rare' and 'highly sought after'.

I own a 94 Supra TT 6 sp. I was super **** off when i saw the new supra tt 6 sp with 39K sticker. My 94 TT 6 sp has a 52k sticker with all option and the 97 model had everything my car has for 12K less!!!! When i saw it in 96 winter i was like wtf!!!!!!! Toyota drop the price on the new supra and it killed the resale of the old one i ended up selling my car for less than half of what i paid for(2 years old car with 30K miles).

Default Supposition

Do you suppose lexus was all set to begin production of the GS330 when they discovered that they might just need all the V6 production they could get their hands on to replace all of those V6 engines subject to sludging failures?

In the meantime with no GS300's to sell in the near future the I6 production line was "discarded"?

i am glad someone realizes this... when i bought my 1st gen gs the new GS4's were pulling up on the truck.. 98' and dealers were making 5,000 over sticker which was too rich for my blood plus i liked the bodystyle of the one i had .. not to mention i got a good deal... Although i bought it used my car's original sticker was 52,000 with trac control, heated seats, nak, etc... the old GS3 and new GS3 are not the same as the name implies.. there is a big price diff... 1st gen is more of a comparison to GS4.. although there were significant performance advances in both. And if you notice.. the people you see driving the 1st gen .. most of which have just purchased them recently cuz they were too expensive at the onset.. and still to this day maintain a high resale value.. you rarely see them on the lot.. at least in my area you dont.

And Lexus does slow production or maybe stop when it is about to bring out a new body style... look how rare it is to see a 96' or 97' GS3 with the slightly modified trunk...

Default GS300

Whatever happens I pray that it will be able to whip up on M5 and Audi straight from the factory. Just make some cosmetics changes. But, don't change nothing if ain't broke. Make the NEW GS handle like dream and offer all the same features as before and some new upgrades like a NAV/DVD player. Thanks...

99 GS 300,

It will be unlikely. Because the new generation GS will be more luxury and pack with more features. Price should be remain within the competitive compare BMW 5's and MB E-Class.
