How to get gum out of carpet?
Please help! My wife's car has a huge wad of gum stuck on the passenger's side carpet. Needless to say, this is now MY problem. Any recommendations short of cutting it out?

There are some commerical products that remove gum. I tend to recall some thing called 'Goop Off' or some thing like that. Go to you local auto supply or a commerical cleaning (eg. stores specializing in commerical cleaning products for janitorial services) store.
Years ago we'd use a piece of ice to freeze the gum. It then 'simply' (or not) chips off. You could also use one of the aerosol cans that are used in electronics to help diagnostic temperature problems to accomplish the same.
Good luck.

theanimala,
I have had the unfortunate luck of being on your end after having a girl step in gum and bring it into my car. Apparently it's a universal thing I see Ok here is what I did. Remove ya floor mat, take ice packs and let them rest on top of the floor mat where the gum is for about 15-20 minutes. Then with a tooth brush start to lightly brush the frozen gum and it should start to flake off the mat. You may have to repeatedly do this or if your freezer has enough room, throw ya mat in there overnight to really freeze the gum. I then used very diluted citrus solve, since my mats are black, to get the last of the gum that was left. It was a very time consuming process but in the end I got the gum out. Good luck

Freeze spray works pretty well. Usually pharmacys will carry it, or maybe a medical supply store. Just spray it all over the gum until it's rock hard, and then use some pliers to pull the chunk out. It will take some of the carpet with it, but not like cutting it out.

Use a can or dust off or canned air. Turn it upside down and spray. The result will be a supercooled liquid that will spray out and freeze upon contact. The gum should shatter so you can vacuum it.

Carpet or floor mat? Freezing is best, either way, but if it's the carpet, use dry ice. If floor mat, try it all and tell us what works best.....floor mats are cheap if you fork up.........

Thanks for the advice guys. The compressed air trick worked great. Gum came out after a little prying, and now you can never tell it was there. Thanks again!
