This story really is too funny. I thought this was going to be a story of your wife taking your car to get some mods put on without your knowledge.
However, is it really such a good thing if you lost $3,000 in the process. Not sure pricing in your country but lowering, factory 18's, tint, stereo, etc. could be had for much less than $3,000 in the states

a colleague lost his brand new toyota Prado over an year ago and still didnt hear about! and the insurance has not paid him also as it was his fault... he had left the car on when he went in to a grocery shop and did not find his car when he was back!

I 've heard of cases like this before, what he was trying to do was steal the car change the plates and make it like it's his car.. but guess it didn't work out for him.
I remember back in the days when people used to do this to honda civic's. If you have a rusty one, go steal a clean one, swap you're plates and vin, put you're mods on it. and if you get busted the original owner will have a nice modifed motor and whatever.
