Question GS300 or 400

Hello I am a newbie here and currently have a 95' black/black LS400. I am looking into getting 98+ GS. I have some options, I can go with a high mileage GS400(75-85,000) or for the same price I can go for a lower mileage(45-65,000) GS300. I would definately enjoy the speed of the 400 but would also like a car with lower miles. This is where I am undecided. I would appreciate any opinions/thoughts on my decision that you might have, thank-you ARB

If you are going to modify the GS300 to a GS300tt then go w/t the GS300. Otherwise the 400 is the only way to go. I had the 1999 GS300. I got rid of it and went w/t the 400.

Thanks, I have been looking around and it seems that turbos would cost me around $7,000. That's more than I would wan't to spend on aftermarket parts. Does anyone know where I could get used ones? Would you recommend/not recommend this? I saw a used supercharger for sale for $3500 which might be an option. Also I found a nice Spectra Blue GS400 which is my favorite color on the GS but was wondering if it is too loud or draws too much attention(i.e. more cops, thieves, keyings). Do any spectra blue GS owners experience any of these problems or have any regrets on the color choice? I may also decide to go with the white, my next favorite color if I can find a good one. Thanks in advance for any help that you might be able to give me.

I bought a 98 Spectra Blue GS300 last year and I was very happy with it......for a while. After spending time reading all of the posts here on CL I regret not getting a GS400.

What is that you say? You aren't the type who speeds around and needs that extra power? Guess what, I am the exact same type of person. But try saying that to a co-worker who has a Grand Prix that is faster than your Lexus. Don't get me wrong, the GS300 is a fabulous car and is by far the best car I have ever owned. My advice, get a GS400 and spend hours a day reading the wealth of information on CL. Otherwise, get a GS300 and stay away from CL so you don't have that daily reminder of what if I had waited 3 more months so I could have had a GS400............

As far as the Spectra Blue, it is a wonderful color. Every time I look at it I think, "THAT IS A DAMN FINE COLOR!" I have had it about 6 months and have had no suspicious looks from thugs, keyings, or harassment from cops. I did get a speeding ticket in which the cop was a total a$$hole though. Small town cop thinking, "I'm gonna stick it to this yuppie in a shiny blue Lexus from the city."

Thanks Yoda that definately, along with Mark's reply made me lean towards the GS400 . From what I understand the GS 98+ should be just as reliable as the LS400 so I guess the high mileage(75-85000) should not be an issue? Plus I will get an aftermarket warranty.
Thanks ARB

Question

Also those of you who have bought aftermarket warranties for your GS what type of deal did you get (i.e. mileage/yaers) and how much did you pay?

Thumbs up

Sorry about all the questions, but just to make sure, the general consensus would be to get a high mileage GS400(75-85,000 & I do like speed) with an aftermarket warranty VS. a GS300(45-60,000) for the same price, which would also require the aftermarket warranty when the 6/70,000 powertrain warranty is used up in a couple of years.

Thank you

By the way this is a great club and there seems to be many knowledgable people here. Sorry, no more posts on the above quoted subject today but does anyone disagree or agree.
