Talking Hey guys, question on Double Din....

Hey guys, I just created my account but I've been reading a lot in the 2GS forum for a while now. I've seen all of the stickys and most of the write ups about navigation and stereos, but my question is, I have a stock radio system in my 02' GS and I want to install a double din unit. Now I saw the write up and most people go tap into the amp behind the glovebox. I don't know why though, risk of blowing it? I was talking to some other clublexus guys who I meet up with on Thursdays and one guy said I don't even have to hook up to that amp. I can just match up the blue with blue and the other wires ect. and that's it. Any information on this and how it should be done would be helpful. Thanks guys.

By the way. I run a silver (that's the way to go) 02' GS300, Blacked out stock rims/chrome accents, angel eyes, halo's, chrome housing, 6000k hids, white fogs, tints all around, and Megan Racing exhausts. And I have a Weapon R Secret Weapon Intake on it's way too! (can't wait for it!)

I've never heard of just wiring it like that ..Blue to blue Ect.. its aways been through the amp behind the dash best bet would be to take it to a local stereo shop , like you said you dont wanna burn anything out !

the reasoning behind wiring at the amp is to BYPASS the amp, you are not wiring into the amp..... you have to bypass the amp so you dont fry it

if you just match the colors behind the dash you will have your radio amp putting amperage into the factory amp...... and that doesnt work too well

thanks, yea I understand and that's what I originally thought. It would be so much easier just matching up, then having to run into the amp behind the glovebox, or at least it seems that way.

Ha! That guy told you to just match colors with your new radio? That didn't happen to be on April fools did it? Is he really a friend? Maybe he's trying to get you to fry your new radio! Be careful with who your friends are! Lol!

haha, You ask me any questions about the engine, I know the answers, but how to hook up a double din, not so much.
