New to CL don't have a GS "yet"
Well the story is I borrowed a friend's 99 GS and was hooked. Even more so when I start looking in the trader and found that the GS's aren't that expensive with considerably low mileage.
If I could get some insight on what to pay and look for in the GS, I am really interested in the 300 series. Mainly because I believe I will take it to the forced induction level.
Thanks in advance everyone!

i bought a 2000 GS300 with 107200 on the clock. major services have been done (timing belt). I picked it up for 8600 OTD. I over paid a bit but since its from a dealer, they took care of all the little details for me. interior is excellent condition as well as the exterior. seems like the dealer claybar'ed, waxed, and detailed it.
for a 2GS, expect to pay around KBB value for it. if not, look around more. my friends both bought GS's around the same time i did.
one bought a 98 with 75k on the odometer for 7000 from a private party.
the other bought a 2000 with 118k miles for 7800 from private party

Perfect, thanks guys for all the inut and the welcomes. Are there specific things, areas, or questions I should be paying close attention to or asking about when I'm looking at GS's I'm interested in?

make sure the major services were done, if not have the seller adjust the price accordingly, as dealer services are not cheap

Alright thanks! If there's already I thread like this one and I missed it sorry to make another and I don't mind a link to it. Also where can I find a maintenance schedule, and is there and common parts of the GS that are known to go bad or you can tell if it was mistreated?

ball joints and tie rods around 120k, timing belt and water pump at 90k (that is one of the major services i was referring to above)...the lcd display on the radio is known to go out (easy fix though), and the hvac mode servo may have some issues down the road. this servo controls air direction.
mechanically wise...engine, tranny...will go for 300k plus if properly maintained.
all the issues above are pretty minor and easy fixes.
good luck shopping

hey and welcome!
i bought my 99 gs300 with 117k on the odo for about 9k from a private party.
the only major things i would check before you buy is to see if they did the timing belt change ( what others have said) and also iirc the 98-00 GS' have bad ball joints. so look into changing that also. (i did it and its not as hard as it sounds)

Cool... Thanks for all the input guys! Now what about forced induction. I know these can handle a lot (well I've been told) mainly turbo guys. Lets say keep the motor it self stock, I know theres more pluses when it comes to using a Supra bottom atleast, but for purpose of discussion let's keep the stock motor in there. How much can power can I push to get out of this with turbo and still be good ol Toyota reliability? Also throw out some suggestions on what parts to use (or just point me in the right direction of an existing thread that talks about getting into forced induction with a GS) to package up a good reliable turbo kit.
