Guys, I know stock size of a 2GS430 is 235/45/17, but I want to go with taller sidewall tire. Is is safe to put 55 sidewall? Could it mess with traction control/stability system, etc? I know the speedo will be off, but I dont care about that.
Also, if I do go with 55 series, what width should I go with? Should I keep it 235 or increase it to 245?

235/45R17 is stock - most people run 245/45R17 because they are nearly identical.
Going to a 235 or 245/55R17 will add about two inches to the over all diameter.
What do you need all the extra cushion or ground clearance for? Or are you trying to fill the wheel/tire gap with rubber?

I have a set of 17" rims right now with 235/45/17, but I've bent about five 17" rims on brooklyn roads with this tire combo. Right now I'm riding on some 225/60/16 and loving the ride and the fact that its virtually impossible to bend the rim with this sidewall height, but I still have the 17's, and I'm considering putting them back if I can get fatter tire. going from 45 to 55 series tire is 10% of 235, which is 23.5mm, which is roughly an inch, so yeah it should add roughly 2" to overall wheel diameter. I wonder if its going to rub.

I am running a 235/50R 17 for many of the same reasons you mentioned. Atlanta roads can be somewhat unforgiving and I still want a smooth ride so I went with the thicker sidewall which is obviously sacrilegious here on CL ![Stick Out Tongue](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
Brandon Lorenc, our go-to guy in the tire and wheels forum, is a great resource. He helped me pick my tires out and I have been extremely happy with the purchase decision- I chose Bridgestone Turanza Serenity tires and I would highly recommend them. I have been a long time Michelin guy but these BS tires were actually higher rated than comparable Michelins and now I can understand why.
Also, I don't think you should have a problem with rubbing. My car is dropped on Tanabe DF210s, 1.8 rear and 1.5 front, with 25mm spacers in back and 20mm in front, and my rears have only rubbed once when reversing out of a driveway that was a different elevation than the road.
Good luck

Thanks for your responce. I belive Lexus has increased the tire sidewall size on the 3GS as well, to the 235/50/17. In fact, the 17" tires that I'm running are from a 3GS300/350.
But I would still like to go with 55 series tire, I think its a safer bet. I *LOVE* the ride right now with the 16's but they came of an LS430 and they take away 2GS agressive look.
