Exclamation Help!! Allen wrenches dropped in tranny housing

Ohh man what a day. I followed the advice of many DIY'ers and opened the access panel to the flex plate. (Right where the tranny and engine meet. To lock the crank from moving when pulling off the crank bolt) I changed my timing belt.

I used an allen wrench and lodged it in the teeth. This worked great for removal.

But when putting the crank pully back on I left the allen wrench in and it sucked it up in and dropped in the bottom of the bell housing!

So then, in my infinite wisdom, i searched around for it using another allen wrench......AND DROPPED THAT ONE IN THERE TOO!!!

This story played out very much like Jim Carrey in Dumb & Dumber when he is getting the newspaper from the machine and loses his wallet.

I have tried a magnet and grappler tool all to no avail. It's such a tight space, you really cannot get anything in there.

Any of you pros have any idea on what I can do to get these two allen wrenches out?

Would it be real bad to leave them in there?

Only thing I can see is unbolting the tranny from the engine and sliding it back about 1/2 inch and the allen wrenches should come tumbling out.

But, I assume to do that it's another job in and of itself.

I am desperate, please!!!

have it towed to the dealership and let a pro deal with this. Sounds like you will have a solid issue

You better get it towed to a shop to handle.

Thanks guys...calling my lexus dealership now. Even if it were easy to pull off the transmission, I have had my fill of repairing this thing at this point.

I guess to impart some wisdom, if you need to remove the crank bolt on a gs for any reason, just break down and buy the SST tool. None of the other methods are 100% and that bolt is TIGHT!!

I would just pull the tranny, but I guess you are fed up

FYI.... The crank pulley comes off with a 1/2" drive short impact socket and breaker bar, using my 4ft jack handle slid over it for leverage. works every time.

B. Diddy....but what do you use to keep the engine from just turning over? At 181ft lb you have to lock the engine somehow.
